Margaret Tucker Hostel was established in 1983 to provide supported crisis accommodation to young Aboriginal women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The hostel supports young Aboriginal women who are aged from 15-18 years of age to provide supported crisis accommodation for up to 6 weeks to young Aboriginal women and their children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The hostel provides a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal women and their children where they are supported to seek longer term and more secure housing options and fully prepared them for independent living.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
This role will be responsible for:
- Perform the duties of the day-to-day household management of the hostel including household tasks, schedule, manage, delegate, and execute domestic duties and routines, e.g., menu planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning, and washing.
- Ensure hostel cleaning supplies are monitored and ordered as needed and all cleaning equipment is in good working order and replaced/repaired as needed.
- Ensure health, hygiene and cleanliness standards are upheld throughout the hostel to required OH&S standards.
- Ensure all shift responsibilities and accountabilities have been completed and/or addressed, including all cleaning tasks before completing shift.
- Implement a schedule for daily, weekly, and monthly chores.
- Manage maintenance/repairs/replacement of all appliances within the hostel to ensure efficient living standards.
YOU WILL NEED:
- Commitment to work within the Margaret Tucker Hostel vision and purpose.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the issues facing Aboriginal communities today.
- Knowledge of community and local Aboriginal agencies/organisations that can provide support services that are associated with housing, education, health and wellbeing, mental health support services, etc.
- Demonstrated skills in working in a trauma informed and strengths-based manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work very closely with the young women and to listen to, motivate, and support them to access programs that enable change in their lives.
- Highly developed communication and organisational skills, active listening skills, report writing, negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making and advocacy skills.
- Competency in using Microsoft applications (Outlook365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SHIP and the capacity to write effectively and maintain appropriate shift notes and reports as needed.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of the team.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills for managing the effective running of the household.
- Current Driver's Licence
- Current working with children experience
- First Aid certificate
