WHO WE ARE

Sarah Mansfield is the Victorian Greens first regional MP, elected to represent the region of Western Victoria at the 2022 state election. Sarah is the spokesperson for Water, Health Services and Reproductive Health, Local Government, Agriculture, and Rural and Regional Communities.

Our new office team is small, collaborative, nimble and strategic. KEY STRENGTHS

You are a strong writer and clear communicator, with experience writing a variety of communications, campaign, media and social media material. You feel comfortable writing stakeholder emails, media releases, media briefings, key messages, campaign collateral, social media content, parliamentary speeches, video scripts, blog posts and more. You are comfortable working with the media and adept at crafting clear and compelling messaging that showcases our values and what we care about. Most importantly, you are caring and compassionate and committed to making positive change in our communities and regions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communications and Media
    • Manage and build Sarah’s regional and social media profile in Western Victoria and identify ways to connect with new audiences and grow our supporter base
    • Execute all communications in line with our overall office strategy and the Victorian Greens’ vision and values
    • Run the daily scheduling and content creation/posting for Sarah’s social media channels
      Identify and respond to traditional media opportunities for Sarah, and coordinate with the State Leader’s Office media advisor to pitch and engage with local, regional, and statewide outlets
    • Draft media releases, key messaging and media briefs that provide a strong, coherent position on our work and values
    • Lead on Sarah’s digital communications across email, social media, digital advertising and website content. Work with the team to develop design and video content to amplify Sarah’s work and successes
    • Prepare concepts and content for flyers, emails, speaking events, mail-outs and social media to amplify local campaigns and events
    • Identify opportunities for providing regional insights and perspectives on Victorian Greens’ campaigns and work closely with staff in other Greens MPs' offices to ensure our work is strategic, coordinated and effective
    • Draft and respond to constituent queries when required and support local campaigns when needed
    • Provide communications and hands-on support for office events when needed
    • Work with the Senior Advisor on drafting speeches and questions to Parliament
    • Develop media and communications plans and strategies when needed
    • Maintain strict confidentiality on all issues associated with the office and your duties
  • Campaigns coordination
    • Identify communications and media opportunities to support local campaigns and amplify Sarah’s advocacy for local issues
    • Create campaign plans, and communications resources such as emails, messaging and social media content to amplify our work on portfolio areas and local campaigns
    • Contribute to Victorian Greens campaigns by providing Communications support when needed and by providing regional insights and perspectives to broader Greens issues and campaigns.

TERMS & SALARY

  • 0.6-0.8 FTE (by negotiation), ongoing.
  • Grade 2.1 (pro-rata) as per the Parliament of Victoria’s Electorate Officer Salary Scale. Conditions of employment are pursuant to the Parliamentary Administration Act 2005 and the Electorate Officers (Victoria) Single Enterprise Agreement 2021.
  • Opportunity for one or two regular work from home days per week if desired, at least some days working from our office in Geelong expected. Work from Parliament Office in Melbourne also required at times, and may be some additional travel in Western Victoria electorate (costs for travel and accommodation are covered with certain conditions).
  • Family-friendly hours are available, however some out-of-hours work will be required.
  • Electorate Officers are employees of the Victorian Parliament, directly accountable to the Member in whose electorate they are employed.
  • Electorate Officers have a main role in supporting the Member, a position which requires a high degree of loyalty, versatility and the ability to maintain confidentiality on behalf of the Member and those who contact the office.
  • Pursuant to section 30(5) of the Parliamentary Administration Act 2005, Electorate Officers are prohibited from performing ‘party-specific activity’ during the course of their employment. ‘Party specific’ activity means any activity for the dominant purpose of directing how a person should vote at an election, by promoting or opposing the election of any candidate at the election; or a registered political party; or an elected member.
  • Electorate Officers are bound by the Electorate Officer Code of Conduct and required to demonstrate the Electorate Officer Values in the performance of their duties.
  • Employees are required to comply with all health, safety and risk management policies and procedures of the Parliament and take all reasonable care that any actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of others in the Parliament precinct.
  • Please note, you will be required to provide a Working With Children Check (WWCC), National Police Check (NPC) and participate in a 15 minute confirmation interview with the Parliament of Victoria’s Department of Parliamentary Services.
