Make-A-Wish

Make-A-Wish is one of Australia’s most trusted charities and part of the largest wish-granting organisations in the world. We partner with children with critical illnesses, their families, and medical teams to grant wishes as unique as the children who imagine them. At Make-A-Wish, our mission is to grant the wish of every eligible child as we believe wishes complement treatment, build resilience and bring hope to children and their families when they need it most.

About the Role

We are seeking a talented, experienced, and driven PR & Engagement Manager to join the team in Melbourne on a 6-month contract to cover maternity leave.

This role will be responsible for overseeing all PR and media activities for Make-A-Wish, helping to capture the hearts and minds of the public and support our brand and reputation as Australia’s most inspirational children’s charity.

The role will proactively develop creative and innovative opportunities to support key marketing and fundraising objectives, working in collaboration with teams across Make-A-Wish and external agencies, and requires exceptional relationship and stakeholder management skills to engage and mobilise our Wish Force community.

Responsibilities of the Role

  • Oversee all media and PR activities across Make-A-Wish.
  • Proactively identify and develop new and unique opportunities to reach audiences, ensuring alignment with Make-A-Wish’s brand and content strategy.
  • Manage the relationship with our PR agency and ensure that key outcomes and deliverables are achieved.
  • Create briefs to support major campaigns, fundraising appeals and signature brand activities.
  • Coordinate and deliver internal requirements for PR and media activity, including working with wish families, ambassadors and internal teams.
  • Support other marketing activities as required, including event coordination and social media activities.
  • Identify and develop high-potential Wish Ambassadors to share their story through events, PR and advertising.
  • Support local media opportunities and coordinate with local volunteer branches.
  • Provide monthly reporting on all activity.
  • Ensure that the Make-A-Wish brand is incorporated into all events, touchpoints and interactions.

About You

  • Experience in a marketing, comms or similar role.
  • A solid understanding of the PR and media landscape and how PR connects and integrates into the broader marketing mix.
  • Proven experience in identifying opportunities and creating innovative ways to share stories and engage the public.
  • Able to identify and manage any risk to brand and reputation.
  • Must be self-driven, highly motivated and able to think outside the box when it comes to new opportunities.
  • Can build strong working relationships with various stakeholders, including former wish recipients and families, senior management, and those with significant reach, networks and profile.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others, both internal and external to Make-A-Wish.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A high-level of empathy when it comes to dealing with media activities and wish families.

What we can offer you

  • Competitive salary and salary packaging.
  • The opportunity to be part of a fast-paced marketing team for a trusted and well-respected brand.
  • The opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of critically ill children and see the difference you are making every day.
  • A flexible and supportive workplace, with excellent work-life balance.
