The Learning the Macleay (LtM) is part of the Stronger Places, Stronger People Initiative (SPSP) is an Australian Government initiative supporting community-led systems change in partnership with 10 Australian communities and state and territory governments. The long-term goal is to disrupt disadvantage. The objective is to demonstrate that community-led collective impact delivers better outcomes, improved wellbeing for children and their families living in communities SPSP supports. Macleay Valley is one of the communities who have been offered a SPSP partnership from the State and Australian Government.
The Community Connector (Justice) collaborates with government agencies, non-government organisations, the Aboriginal Legal Service, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and community members to systematically enhance and align justice efforts in the Macleay Valley region.
This role engages directly with individuals, families and organisations impacted by the justice system, supporting initiatives that promote rehabilitation and reintegration. Working in partnership with the Community Partnerships Officer, this position contributes to delivering strategic justice outcomes as outlined in the Kempsey Cultural Safety Summit Report.
This position reports into the Partnership Lead at Learning the Macleay (LtM) and will be based out of the LtM Office in Kempsey.
The successful candidate will oversee the collaboration between justice services and community programs, develop partnerships with key agencies, and supports crime prevention and reintegration initiatives.
It works closely with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, governments, and stakeholders to align projects with local priorities and advance justice reinvestment.
The position builds awareness of the NSW Aboriginal Justice Partnership and Closing the Gap, facilitates community-led and data-driven initiatives, coordinates events and funding proposals, fosters a supportive workplace, and provides regular updates on progress.
