Role Overview:
The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, repairs, and safety of LMA facilities, including the Mosque, community centres, offices, and associated properties.
This role plays a vital part in ensuring that our spaces remain functional, presentable, and aligned with the standards of respect, cleanliness, and care upheld within an Islamic environment.
Core Objectives Include:
Cleaning and Sanitation:
- Clean and sanitise restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and floors.
- Vacuum, mop and dust all designated areas, ensuring cleanliness is maintained.
- Dispose of trash and recycling appropriately and ensure waste management areas are kept orderly.
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of outdoor and common areas, including walkways, prayer spaces, carpark and public gathering areas.
Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform minor plumbing repairs, such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and replacing fixtures as needed.
- Repair doors, windows, furniture, and other fixtures as needed.
- Identify and report any major maintenance issues that require professional repair.
General Facility Upkeep:
- Inspect the facility regularly to identify maintenance needs.
- Ensure that tools, equipment, and supplies are properly stored and maintained.
- Purchasing and ensuring supplies are stocked.
- Assist with setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for events or activities.
- Maintain exterior areas, including basic landscaping tasks such as sweeping walkways and clearing debris.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a secure and safe work environment.
- Handle cleaning chemicals and tools in accordance with safety regulations.
- Wearing appropriate safety equipment when cleaning, maintaining, or handling tools, machinery, or hazardous chemicals including safety goggles, gloves, closed shoes, masks or other protective gear dependent on the task.
- Respond promptly to any maintenance-related safety concerns.
General:
- Adhere to Work Health & Safety (WHS) regulations and LMA policies at all times.
- Report hazards or major facility issues to the Facilities Manager.
- Respect the religious and cultural nature of the environment, ensuring work is conducted with care around sacred spaces.
Skills and Competencies:
- Previous experience in general building and grounds maintenance or similar role.
- Gardening and landscaping knowledge, including use of hedge trimmers, lawn mowers, and garden tools.
- Ability to work independently, manage time, and complete tasks efficiently.
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual work safely.
- Understanding and respect for Islamic practices and the function of religious spaces.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
