Management Committee Member (Voluntary)

LGBTI Legal Service Inc.

The LGBTI Legal Service Inc. is seeking expressions of interest to join the LGBTI Legal Service Inc. Management Committee. All LGBTI Legal Service Inc. Committee Members are unpaid volunteers. The Committee is responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the LGBTI Legal Service Inc. and ensuring that the LGBTI  Legal Service Inc. is meeting all its legal, financial and ethical obligations. The Committee comprises a diverse and inclusive group of LGBTIQAP+ people and allies and reflects the diversity of our communities.

We are actively looking to increase the diversity on our Committee to reflect the diversity of the communities with which we work. We are particularly interested in working with First Nations people, people from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, people with disability, neurodivergent people, and LGBTIQAP+ individuals including those who are trans and gender diverse.

The LGBTI Legal Service Inc. is a non-profit community-based legal service. The Service recognises the difficulties faced by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex community and seeks to assist the Queensland LGBTIQAP+ community to gain access to justice through the provision of legal and social welfare services. We also endeavour to provide community legal education activities and resources in order to increase awareness of legal rights and responsibilities for the LGBTIQAP+ community in Queensland. The Service includes a Law Reform division, which is actively involved in advocating for law reform and human rights.

The LGBTI Legal Service Inc is committed to working to an agreed organisational vision and set of values, and to using these to inform our planning and service delivery. You can read more about our mission, vison and values on our website.

The Management Committee is responsible for the governance of the LGBTI Legal Service.

Management Committee members are provided an agenda and agenda materials before meetings. Meetings are held in person and via videoconferencing.

The Management Committee also communicates via email outside of meetings.

The Management Committee is also required to continue their development as a committee and organisation as a whole. This is organised by the Committee and may include training, planning and/or strategy days.
