About Us
LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) is the national peak health organisation in Australia for organisations and individuals that provide health-related programs, services and research focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people and other sexuality, gender and bodily diverse people and communities.
LHA works with legislators, policymakers and service providers to help them understand and address the needs of LGBTIQ+ people and communities. We support LHA members to have a stronger policy voice and partner with researchers across the country on issues of LGBTIQ+ health and wellbeing.
Role objective
The Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Manager is responsible for the successful implementation and delivery of the Mindout program. As a peak body, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) is not a direct service or program provider. LHA works with partners across Australia to deliver programs and initiatives with LHA providing high level national coordination. This role requires demonstrated program and partnership management experience.
Mindout develops and delivers several activities aimed at preventing suicide and improving the mental health and wellbeing outcomes of LGBTIQ+ populations. Mindout is funded through the National Suicide Prevention Leadership and Support program (NSPLSP). LHA manages the following NSPLSP programs:
- National leadership in suicide prevention research translation
- National support for lived experience of suicide
- National media and communications strategy
- National suicide prevention training
The core focus of this role is to ensure that LHA’s mental health and suicide prevention programs are delivered to the highest standard and are guided by current research and models of best practice. The work of this role is guided by the key performance indicators in LHA’s program contracts. While providing support across all Mindout programs, this role will have primary oversight of the National suicide prevention training program. The intended outcomes of the training program are to:
- Reduce the rate of suicide and suicidal behaviour through universal strategies that target and involve the whole population, while also having comprehensive reach in support for at risk populations and communities
- Increase the capacity of individuals and communities to prevent and respond to suicide
- Support Primary Health Networks (PHNs) to lead a regional approach to service planning and integration for suicide prevention activities which meet the needs of individuals at the local level.
All staff are required to ensure that within their role and delivery of their work, they consider and incorporate the needs of the LGBTIQ+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, BrotherBoys and SisterGirls.
