• Full-time – 12 Month fixed term – 35 hours per week
• Salary: $67,867 - $78,047 p.a. plus 11.5% Superannuation

About the Department

Waverley Community Living Program (WCLP) provides services that reduce social isolation and vulnerability by linking adults with a mild intellectual disability and their carers with their local communities, building layers of support and providing and coordinating support and services specific to a person’s interests and goals. The Social Educator works to inspire the people we support to achieve their full potential. In this position you will deliver a person-centered service providing living skills training, in home and lifestyle support to adults with a mild intellectual disability, who are living more independently in a close network of housing.

The Role

The successful applicants have the ability to provide quality service, promoting the rights, interests and needs of people we support. You have knowledge and awareness of the NDIS, the Disability Inclusion Act 2014 and commitment to working in person-centered ways, balancing duty of care and dignity of risk.

In this role you will be working in a small team with a long-established group of NDIS participants, who live in Waverley and surrounding areas.

A typical day will see you provide 1:1 support in people’s home and in the community as well as co-designing and leading small training and social groups. Your roster will generally include a start between 09.30am and 11.30am and finish between 5pm and 7pm with some variations depending on activity. You will be available for up to 3 full weekends per year with overnight stays outside of the Sydney Metropolitan area.  

About You

• Demonstrated experience in delivering person-centered, outcome-focused services to adults with intellectual disability.
• Effective and well developed interpersonal and relationship building skills, communication (written and verbal) and ability to set clear professional boundaries when working with participants.
• Demonstrated problem solving, advocacy and conflict resolution skills and ability to be flexible, prioritise and adapt to change while balancing the participants dignity of risk with Council's duty of care.
• Completed NDIS Worker Screening and Worker Orientation Module
• Demonstrated experience in working effectively in a team and individually with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work evenings as part of a regular roster.

Desirable requirements

• Relevant qualification such as Certificate 3 in Disability or equivalent
• First Aid Certificate
