THE ROLE:

The Program Officer will work with the Centre Manager to oversee the day to day running of the Boronia Community Breakfast Program. The purpose of the program is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for those who are the most marginalised in the Knox community, to build a sense of community and belonging. The program acknowledges that there are times in everyone’s life that they need some extra support, and resilience is built through community. The breakfast program is set up to facilitate Knox community members access to relevant services, but equally to facilitate building of community support.

The program is largely volunteer run, with over 40 volunteers involved in the delivery of the program. The Breakfast Program Officer trains and supports the team of volunteers delivering the program, and recruits when vacancies arise.

Each day the program serves breakfast to around 35-50 people breakfast. The Breakfast Program Officer is responsible for ensuring the adequate resourcing and planning to ensure all aspects of the program are delivered (including shopping, volunteers, activities, etc). Every breakfast session has a Knox Infolink Case Worker, trained volunteers, and representatives from other local agencies, engaging and chatting with the guests as they eat around tables. The Program Officer plays a key role in this team, engaging in a friendly, non-judgemental way with the breakfast guests, linking them and supporting them to access support services.

The Program Officer is responsible for facilitating community building activities that are fun and inclusive and responsive to the wants and needs of the guests. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to connect, listen and support people facing from a variety of backgrounds and/or facing crisis and traumatic experiences.   • Provide a high standard of service delivery ensuring that the dignity and respect of the guests is observed at all times

Selection Criteria

  • A tertiary qualification in Community Services, Community Development or Social Work and/or relevant experience in the Sector.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and experience engaging and conversing with people in crisis or facing hardship.
  • Exemplary organisation skills and ability to plan and execute that plan for smooth day-to-day program delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability or capacity to design and run social engagement activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively & support a team approach.
  • Demonstrated past and relevant work in the community sector.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated IT/computer skills to include Excel, Word, Outlook etc.
