Knowmore Legal Service is a nationwide service, supporting victim-survivors of childhood abuse and the Stolen Generations in accessing legal redress and justice. We offer free, confidential services to help victim-survivors navigate their compensation and redress options, including through assistance in applying to the National Redress Scheme, Victims of Crime Compensation Schemes, and the Territories Stolen Generation Redress Scheme.

Our team provides free legal assistance, financial counselling, social support and specialised cultural support for First Nations people. With a trauma-informed and culturally safe approach, we empower victim-survivors to make informed choices on their path to healing and justice.

About the Role

Knowmore Legal Service is seeking a compassionate and experienced Financial Counsellor to join our national, multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will provide financial counselling to clients who are applying (or considering applying) for redress through the National Redress Scheme (NRS) or Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme (TSGRS).

You’ll work in a trauma-informed, culturally safe environment to help clients navigate complex financial decisions—often involving lump sum payments—with dignity and confidence.

What you’ll do

Deliver high-quality financial counselling and advocacy to clients, including support with debts, hardship, budgeting, and lump sum management. Provide clear, practical advice about the financial implications of redress payments. Collaborate closely within a national team and contribute to our multi-disciplinary approach. Help educate and train organisations supporting people applying for redress.

What we’re looking for

A diploma in Financial Counselling (or Community Services - Financial Counselling). Eligibility for membership with your state Financial Counselling peak body. A strong track record supporting vulnerable clients, including understanding trauma-informed practices. Solid understanding of relevant credit, debt, and social security legislation. Cultural competency and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel are highly regarded.
