ABOUT THE ROLE

The purpose of this position is to coordinate and support the delivery of appropriate accredited and non-accredited training to all KLC Staff, with a primary focus on Indigenous rangers within the Kimberley Ranger Network.

The position will work to ensure training is delivered flexibly to people with diverse backgrounds and education levels, is workplace contextualised, integrated with ranger work programs, delivers work outputs on country and is appropriately targeted to group development needs. The position will be integral to delivering on KLC’s vision of developing high professional capacity within the KLC team and throughout the Kimberley Ranger Network.

The position will work collaboratively with a team of in-house technical, as well as training providers and partner organisations to maximise training and professional development outcomes for KLC staff and Indigenous Rangers across the Kimberley.

The role will be based in the Broome office and will involve extensive seasonal travel across the Kimberley, including on-ground support for delivery of training in remote and logistically challenging environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ranger Training Programs

  • Oversee effective delivery of core training activities including Certificates 2 and 3 in Conservation and Ecosystem Management (CEM), Senior First Aid and appropriate access to literacy and numeracy support for all Kimberley Rangers.
  • Develop and implement the KLC Ranger Training and Development and Career Pathways Strategy.
  • Consult with Ranger teams to identify and coordinate delivery of additional training required to address skills gaps and deliver on work programs for example 4WD, drones, firearms, maritime, compliance, tourism.
  • Coordinate the delivery of advanced training at Certificate 4 level and above for high-performing rangers from across the Network.
  • Collaborate with the Women Ranger Development Coordinator to deliver the development objectives identified by the Women Ranger Strategy.
  • Manage and report on training and operational budgets in close consultation with other Ranger Development staff and LSMU Program Managers.
  • Liaise with other KLC staff and external project partners to maximise training outcomes of collaborative and fee for service projects and partnerships across the Kimberley Ranger Network.
  • Attend regional staff meetings, and support Ranger involvement in other events, forums and meetings.

Organisational Training Programs

  • Liaise with admin staff to organise training events, including planning and the provision of logistical, scheduling, equipment, catering and technical support.
  • Conduct training gaps analysis to identify any training needs and make recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records of training progress within current database, training event reports, and manage payment of training fees and other training cost transactions
  • In collaboration with staff across the KLC, help develop training materials and support facilitation where applicable
  • Oversee the progression of training plans in liaison with line managers, RTOs and other partners.
  • Identify training and professional development opportunities for staff and coordinate training dates.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with training providers to identify training requirements, confirm training plans for individuals, and provide advice to line managers and trainees.
  • Work with other KLC staff to arrange and facilitate regional exchanges, forums and events.
  • Contribute to the development of appropriate SOPs and other operational processes to support training being integrated in the work place.
  • Collaborate with other units within the KLC to enable participation of appropriate training by other staff across the organisation.
  • Communicate and promote training outcomes and success stories to KLC media, other staff and external partners
  • Comply with and assist remote based staff to understand and abide by KLC Policy and Procedures and the Employee Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably directed by Management.

Who Are We Looking For?

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A relevant Qualification and/or experience in Vocational Educational Training and/or Cultural and Natural Resource Management
  • Understanding of Aboriginal training needs and remote delivery issues in Northern Australia and commitment to working collaboratively towards empowerment, training and development.
  • Experience in organising/facilitating workshops/events in remote and isolated places
  • Understanding of Aboriginal cultures, protocols and issues in relation to caring for country.
  • Involvement in the design and implementation of training projects, systems, policies or procedures in a regional / remote context.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • High level skills in project administration and finance management, reporting and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, demonstrable within a variety of contexts with a range of stakeholders
  • Hold a current C Class Driver’s Licence and be willing to travel and camp in remote areas.
