Foster Care Social Worker

Key Responsibility

The Foster Care Social Worker is part of a collaborative integrated team working together to make a positive and lasting difference to children and young people through the provision of quality care in a family setting.

About the Role

Reporting to the Team Manager, you will:

• Provide regular support to foster carers, children and young people.
• Work with foster carers and the children and young people in their care in a culturally responsive, trauma informed family centred way.
• Facilitate child centred meetings, support groups and attend carer social events and training.
• Undertake various assessments and keep comprehensive records of work with families including progress and outcomes reporting.
• Develop initial assessments and plans of services which outlines the family background strengths, concerns, and recommendations.
• Advocate for our children and young people, foster carers, and their families.
• Ensure that the protection of children and the promotion of their welfare is given absolute priority in all activities and that critical incidents/allegations are recorded, investigated, and acted upon appropriately and in keeping with Key Assets and child safe procedures.
• Ensure the completion of all case management documentation, for operational compliance.

Experience and Skills Required

• Hold a recognised Social Work Qualification, if qualification is from overseas then proof of validation by the AASW required. Or a Qualification in Psychology, Counselling, Behavioural Science or other relevant degree may be considered.
• A proven track record in working with and or on behalf of children, respecting and maintaining their individuality and promoting their positive development.
• Sound understanding of the child protection system and child welfare work and ability to liaise and negotiate with DFFH Child Protection in relation to addressing protective concerns for children.
• Ability to work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent organisational, time management skills, and ability to be self-directed.
