KCLS is seeking a full-time Paralegal Tenancy Advocate based in Kununurra WA - a role offering meaningful work, professional growth, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences across the Kimberley.

This isn’t just another paralegal position. It’s an opportunity to build trusted relationships with remote communities, partner with multidisciplinary professionals, and walk alongside clients facing complex challenges. From case preparation, advocating for systemic change, and assisting clients facing housing issues, the work is dynamic, varied, and deeply rewarding. No two days look the same - but every day has purpose.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide information, advocacy, support, negotiation, options and appropriate referrals to clients with residential tenancy issues
  • Act as client liaison and support between solicitors, clients and departments, as part of a holistic and client-focused service
  • Assist in drafting and preparing legal documents and correspondence including conflict checks and referrals
  • Manage client files, databases and intake sheets
  • Conduct legal research and assist solicitors with legal tasks
  • Assist in the organisation of events and programs across services including outreach to remote locations if required
  • Deliver community education programs alongside solicitors and other KCLS staff
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain and enhance the knowledge and skills required to fulfil the responsibilities of the position

Your Experience, Skills, and Spirit

To be eligible, candidates must have completed or are undertaking relevant vocational or tertiary qualifications.

While 2+ years of experience in general legal or administrative support is preferred for appointment, candidates with a minimum of 12 months’ experience in a relevant role are encouraged to apply and will be considered for the Paralegal Tenancy Advocate position.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Computer and secretarial/administration experience in frontline client services, maintaining records in a confidential and sensitive manner
  • Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills, engaging effectively with a diverse range of people, groups, and organisations including Aboriginal communities
  • Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage workload, competing demands, and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively independently and collaborate as part of a team
  • An understanding and commitment to principles of social justice and to working effectively with Indigenous people
  • Demonstrated personal resilience, adaptability, initiative, and ability to meet the challenges of remote service delivery

While not essential, the following experience will be highly regarded:

  • Exposure to regional or remote service delivery environments
  • Prior work in a community legal centre or similar setting

This is an exceptional opportunity for a values‑driven professional to support vulnerable community members and contribute to lasting change in the East Kimberley.

Successful candidates will need (or be able to obtain) a current WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence, a Working with Children Check (WA), and a National Police Clearance.
