We are a leading and well-established provider of psychosocial services with a long and rich history of working with people whose lives have been impacted by mental health challenges. We strive to make a positive impact in lives of people we support as we promote and support inclusion, connection and building resilience in individual lives through our recovery-oriented and trauma informed services. 

In 2024 we are expanding our services and providing a tailored and innovative recovery-oriented residential service for young people with complex mental health needs requiring Out of Home Care (OOHC) support. We are looking for skilled youth support workers to help deliver and grow this new service provided by Karakan.

The Youth Support Workers are integral to the success of this service and they will be supported in their practice by the Youth Support Team Leader. This is a new service based on contemporary evidence-based practices and a recovery-oriented approach to support to allow the young people we support to have every opportunity to learn, grow and enjoy a high quality experience and achieve positive outcomes in their life. 

You will have strong experience and proven success in the following service delivery areas:

  • Youth Residential Services (Out of Home Care Services)
  • Trauma Informed Practice
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
  • Delivering recovery-oriented services to people with mental health needs

Key Roles and Responsibilities of this position will be:

  • Provide support and a high quality of direct care to young people who reside in residential care homes, underpinned by a recovery-oriented practice approach 
  • Ensure you work collaboratively and professionally with the Residential team members and broader care team to ensure the young person experiences are consistent and of a high quality
  • Engage families where appropriate to ensure young people have the opportunity to reconnect, reunify and engage in culture and community 
  • Be a role model and demonstrate positive attributes that allow young people to learn and feel safe which reduces their vulnerability, and builds resilience.

You must have or be willing to obtain if successful:

  • Valid driver's licence with no restrictions
  • Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card P) 
  • other relevant working with children checks.

  • Demonstrated experience in being a member of a service team to achieve intentional outcomes for young people
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people from complex/trauma backgrounds in Out-of-Home care residential service environment
  • Minimum of a relevant certificate IV Child, Youth and Family Intervention qualification or higher and/or one year experience in a similar role but be willing to acquire the Cert IV with Karakan's support 
  • Availability to work rotational shifts
