About the role

We are seeking a key leadership role – Director, Centre for Just Places is responsible for leading a team of professionals working in the areas of research, action and advocacy on place-based inequities and injustice. As the Centre develops and grows, this role will lead the design and trialling of interventions that contribute to building community resilience and capability.

Together with the Executive Director Community and Systems Impact and the advocacy and strategic communications team, this role will take the lead operationalising key priority areas in line with the Strategic Plan building on our significant reputation as a thought leader working at the intersection of social and environmental justice. You will also increase our impact nationally with responsibility for our work in Western Sydney and the Northern Territory.

About you

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification/s and/or relevant senior leadership experience in social services field.
  • Proven track record in the development, management and delivery of successful place-based initiatives, research and related advocacy campaigns.
  • Significant experience in one or more of our policy/program areas (e.g. Climate justice; understanding disadvantage; place-based approaches).
  • Experience in developing strategic partnerships across a range of sectors in order to achieve social change.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing strategy; translating ‘big ideas’ into practice.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams of professionals.
  • Demonstrated success in raising funding and building relationships with funders.
  • Understanding, sympathy and a demonstrated capacity to provide leadership in the mission and ethos of Jesuit Social Services.

About the program

The Centre for Just Places (the Centre) was established by Jesuit Social Services, with significant seed funding from the Gandel Foundation and the Victorian Government. The Centre focuses on addressing the root causes of social, economic and environmental inequity and injustice by engaging in research, action and advocacy on place-based inequities and injustice. We collaborate with communities and cross sectoral stakeholders to support and enable effective place-based approaches.
