Jesuit Social Services is a social change organisation working to build a just society where all people can live to their full potential. We reflect on the critical factors shaping our contemporary world; the social, political and economic contexts, and we adapt our practice to work with those most in need.
Since 1977, Jesuit Social Services has provided services to some of the most disadvantaged in our community.
We place a high priority on advocacy and are a leader in policy development and research.
Jesuit Social Services seeks a dynamic communication professional for a part time role (0.8EFT) responsible for driving strong, clear and consistent communications across the organisation but with a particular focus on our Centre for Just Places.
The Communication Coordinator role will develop a range of strategic communication products including supporter collateral, marketing material, advocacy documents and media statements to represent the organisation and, specifically, the Centre for Just Places.
To be successful in the role you will have excellent written and verbal communications skills, experience pitching and responding to media requests and an understanding of a broad range of social justice issues. Experience creating collateral using basic graphic design skills will also be of benefit but is not mandatory.
Candidates with an interest and/or understanding of the work of the Centre are encouraged to apply.
Competitive remuneration, plus salary packaging benefit, is offered together with ongoing professional and career development as well as opportunities for personal growth.
This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:
Jesuit Social Services engages with people from diverse backgrounds experiencing complex problems, including those associated with mental illness, substance misuse, family breakdown, offending behaviour, homelessness, unemployment, poverty and social exclusion.
Jesuit Social Services operates a range of programs for disadvantaged young people, families and communities from various operational sites.
The Strategic Communications team works closely with the Policy team to join participant voice, practice wisdom and policy advocacy to raise public awareness of the challenges faced by our participants and the changes needed at a government level to improve outcomes for the whole community.
The Centre for Just Places was established by Jesuit Social Services, with seed funding from the Gandel Foundation and Victorian Government, to enable and support place-based approaches nationally through research, collaboration, engagement and knowledge exchange.
Position description can be found in the attachment below.
Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and the closing date may be subject to change without notice.
