The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Program Manager, Environment manages and administers the grant-making process for its environmental funding. This role will involve travel to remote, rural and regional locations.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage and administer the grant-making process for the Sustainable Pillar
- Develop and manage relationships with key organisations and leaders in the Environment sector, including in government, NGO, research and community organisations
- Develop and manage a pipeline of potential new grants
- Undertake site visits for applications, including interstate and multi-day trips as required
- Review and assess grant proposals and applications to determine compatibility with funding guidelines, potential impacts, , the level of risk, and suitability for funding
- Prepare papers and present to the Committee and Board on applications for consideration
- Monitor successful applications to ensure that grant conditions and reporting requirements are met, and assist grantees to achieve their desired impact where possible
- Provide input into the evaluation of completed projects and grants
- Coordinate major environment grant initiatives, including liaison with applicants and grantees
- Liaison with other philanthropic foundations, donors and philanthropy networks, and government grant-making bodies active in the Environment sector
- Monitor changes and developments in philanthropy and provide advice accordingly
- Attend functions and events as a representative of the Foundation.
About you:
You are passionate about the environmental health of Australia and the opportunity that philanthropy has to make a difference. To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience within, and passion for, the protection and restoration of Australia’s natural environment
- Excellent understanding of the challenges and opportunities relating to climate change, biodiversity loss and nature conservation in Australia.
- Experience in project management, from conception to completion
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting
- Strong analytical, research and assessment skills
- Ability to consult and work effectively with a wide range of organisations
- Strong work ethic and respect for the values of The Ian Potter Foundation
- Commitment to teamwork and a collaborative, inclusive work environment.
The Offer:
The Program Manager, Environment position is a permanent position, located in the CBD. The Foundation supports flexible working but with an expectation that team members spend at least 3 days in the office each week. A competitive salary is on offer.
