About the Community Engagement Coordinator role and you

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Community Engagement Coordinator to join our Customers Services team in our Metro North East region at SGCH. This is a full- time permanent role. Reporting to the Lead, Connecting Communities, this role is based at our Redfern office with travel to other locations as required.

As a Community Engagement Coordinator, you will work with social housing tenants and communities to strengthen community connections and empower tenants to become involved in their local community and reduce social isolation. You facilitate tenant and community engagement events and support the operation of local tenant groups. This role manages the smooth operation of the suite of activities and programs that we offer for our tenants and the local communities across our Metro North East region.

To succeed in this role, you are customer service focused and responsive to tenant needs, passionate about working with communities to identify activities and services they need and involving them in the decision-making process about what is delivered to benefit the community.

As a Tier 1 provider under the National Regulatory System for Community Housing, SGCH offers subsidised rental housing for people on low to moderate incomes. We are a profit-for-purpose organisation that receives income from rent and reinvests it to deliver maintenance services and increase the supply of social and affordable housing.

key selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in community services, social work or similar
  • Experience developing and facilitating community engagement activities and programs for people with diverse backgrounds and cultures, including Aboriginal people
  • Experience using community development tools including surveys, terms of references and event plans
  • Understanding of community development fundamentals and principles of empowerment, inclusion and diversity, collaboration and participation, transparency and trust
  • Understanding of social housing and the needs of tenants and applicants
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including listening with empathy
  • Current NSW driving license.
