The Impact of the Role

This is a pivotal opportunity for a senior caseworker who is passionate about providing specialised support to women and their children experiencing domestic and family violence.
As a Senior DFV Caseworker, you will work with women and their children in the community who have left, or are in the process of leaving, abusive relationships. You’ll play a central role in providing safety planning, trauma-informed care, and tailored casework to support both immediate safety and longer-term recovery.
You will report to the Refuge and Casework Manager and collaborate with a committed team of caseworkers. Your work will directly impact the lives of families by restoring hope, security and a sense of empowerment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering trauma-informed, strengths-based case management for women and their children, including those with complex needs
  • Conducting child-specific risk assessments, ensuring children’s voices and needs are at the centre of planning
  • Providing individual support to children aged 0–16 to address trauma and promote emotional recovery; referring 16–18-year-olds to youth-specific services
  • Supporting mothers to rebuild relationships with their children using evidence-based strategies
  • Developing and maintaining referral pathways with external services to ensure holistic and coordinated care
  • Creating and reviewing tailored case plans that reflect the needs and goals of each client
  • Conducting comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning using the DVSAT and liaising with police, WCAS, Safety Action Meetings, and protective services
  • Participating in the development and delivery of education activities for clients and stakeholders
  • Providing mentoring, secondary consultation, and guidance to team members on child-related issues and child protection reporting
  • Supporting data entry, documentation, and reporting requirements in line with service and compliance standards

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A recognised Social Work degree, eligible for AASW membership
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in social work, with at least two years supporting women and children in the context of domestic and family violence
