Project Assistant - Parkinson's NSW

Impact Advising

Parkinson's NSW is a for-purpose organisation dedicated to enhancing the lives of people living with Parkinson’s and the families and carers who support them.

We offer a wide range of essential services including counselling, support groups, a specialised InfoLine staffed by Parkinson’s Registered Nurses, education programs, and NDIS advocacy. We also fundraise to ensure these services are accessible to those who need them most.

Everything we do is driven by a clear mission: to improve the quality of life for people affected by Parkinson’s and to ensure they feel supported, informed, and empowered throughout their journey.

Impact You Will Have in This Role

As Project Assistant, you will support the implementation of the NSW Carers Strategy, which promotes an inclusive and supportive community where carers are better respected, empowered, and have access to improved economic opportunities, health, and wellbeing.

As part of this role, you will help raise awareness about hidden carers, bridge gaps in support services and ensure that carers are recognised and connected with the resources they need across regional NSW. Your work will also support outreach and educational seminars aimed at informing local communities and health professionals about the vital role of carers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping connect unseen carers to support networks and raise awareness within local communities and health systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Coordination & Administration: Assist in the day-to-day running of the project, including scheduling, correspondence, minute-taking, and document management
  • Research & Identifying Hidden Carers: Conduct research to map communities and identify gaps in carer support. Help create strategies to engage with under-recognised or isolated carers
  • Seminar & Event Support: Assist with organising and delivering seminars for carers, health professionals, and GPs. Manage logistics, travel arrangements, and event promotion
  • Outreach & Community Engagement: Build relationships with local community groups, health networks, and other stakeholders. Distribute promotional materials and represent the project at community events
  • Data Collection & Reporting: Collect and enter data on carers, project activities, and outcomes. Assist with report creation and presentations

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong organisational, administrative, and time-management skills
  • Interest or experience in community-based research, especially in rural or regional areas
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including carers and health professionals
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and basic data tools
  • A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel across regional NSW and work flexible hours

Additional Information:

  • Regular travel across regional NSW is a key component of this role
  • Flexible work arrangements, including the option to work from home, are available
  • Travel expenses will be reimbursed according to the project’s travel policy
  • This is a 2-year part-time contract role with an end date of 30 April 2027
