Impact of the organisation

Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) is the peak body for aged care advocacy and consists of nine state and territory members that provide free, confidential and independent information and support to older people seeking or receiving government-funded aged care as well as their families and other representatives.

OPAN works with the government to influence aged care policy through systemic advocacy. OPAN’s vision is a society where older people are heard, informed and respected and where they enjoy and exercise their human rights.

Impact you will have in this role

As Diversity Education Support Officer, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of OPAN’s national Diversity Education Program.

You will work closely with the Senior Diversity Educator and wider team, providing essential coordination and operational support to promote and deliver inclusive training and learning initiatives. This includes engaging aged care providers, supporting Communities of Practice, and contributing to the visibility and reach of the program through national outreach.

Regular interstate travel is required to support the Planning for Diversity training sessions across the country. The role may also contribute to broader projects under the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate logistics, stakeholder communication and resources to ensure smooth program delivery
  • Support ongoing Communities of Practice and encourage provider participation through events and outreach
  • Build and manage strong relationships with aged care providers to drive engagement with the Diversity Education Program, including phone-based outreach
  • Identify and connect with diversity-focused organisations, cultural leaders and community networks
  • Represent OPAN at conferences, sector forums and promotional events
  • Collect, analyse and report on feedback and program data for continuous improvement
  • Maintain accurate stakeholder records in Salesforce and manage communications through Swift
  • Collaborate across OPAN teams to strengthen the Diversity Action Plan, eLearning and education strategy
  • Support the delivery of inclusive training content that reflects diverse perspectives and experiences

Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience working in the aged care sector is desirable and sound knowledge of aged care providers
  • Strong commitment to inclusive practice and a deep understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Proven experience coordinating programs or events, preferably within NFP or education settings
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence in phone-based outreach
  • Comfortable interacting with varied audiences, including aged care professionals and community partners
  • Well-developed project coordination and organisational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work flexibly and travel interstate regularly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems (Salesforce experience desirable)
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police Check
