Impact of the organisation

The Laptop Initiative is a growing and a newly registered charity in 2024 dedicated to bridging the digital divide for vulnerable people across Australia.

Every 3–4 years, companies replace their laptops. In Australia alone, 4 million laptops are sold annually, yet while some are recycled hundreds and thousands end up in landfill. At the same time, over 2 million Australians lack access to a device or the internet.
By working with a network of incredible charity partners across the country, The Laptop Initiative is dedicated to collecting and distributing donated laptops to those who need them most which include disadvantaged youth, refugee and asylum seekers and women and families who have been victims of domestic violence across Australia.

Impact you will have in this role

We are searching for a passionate and driven Business Development Manager ready to supercharge The Laptop Initiatives’ mission and scale their impact nationwide.

In this pivotal role, you’ll lead the charge in securing regular laptop donations from businesses across Australia, transforming replaced laptops into life-changing tools for vulnerable people across Australia. Your work will directly empower people with the tools they need to access education, secure employment, stay connected, and build a brighter future.

You'll take ownership of outreach and engagement, forging powerful partnerships with corporate leaders and inspiring them to donate their used laptops into opportunities for others. From identifying new prospects to managing the full donation pipeline, you'll play a hands-on role in turning connection into action and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and approach businesses nationwide to secure ongoing laptop donations and grow The Laptop Initiatives’ impact
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, including CEOs, IT leaders, government representatives, and sustainability professionals
  • Manage communications, follow-ups, and data tracking through the CRM system (preferably HubSpot), ensuring a streamlined donor experience
  • Work closely with a small and dedicated internal team and charity partners on a national scale to coordinate smooth, efficient laptop donation processes
  • Represent The Laptop Initiative at industry events, business forums, and networking functions to build awareness and foster new connections
  • Craft compelling pitch decks, case studies, and partnership materials that inspire businesses to get involved
  • Track pipeline performance and share insights, identifying new opportunities to grow our reach and improve results
  • Provide quarterly updates to the Founder and Board, including progress against targets and innovative ideas for future growth and partnerships

Skills and Experience

  • Proven success developing and implementing partnership initiatives, achieving strong results and growth outcomes
  • Success in building a pipeline of partnerships and identifying, researching, cultivating, pitching, and securing partnerships and impactful outcomes
  • A strong network across the Australian business community, with confidence in leveraging your network to source laptops and support for the organisation
  • A self-motivated, confident, independent, manner, and ability to work and communicate effectively in a remote environment with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication, both written and verbal, with a persuasive and warm style with the ability to engage audiences
  • Experience using CRMs (HubSpot preferred) to manage pipelines and track performance
  • Experience working in the IT asset disposal, sustainability, social impact or tech donation space highly regarded
  • A passion for social impact and a genuine excitement to scale a lean, innovative initiative making an impact on people’s lives across Australia
