If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you as an Employment Mentor as part of a small, dedicated team.
About the role
You will mentor a 21-year-old Canberra local in his current roles and work with him to find new opportunities in the fitness industry to build on his CIT study and passion for CrossFit.
- Hours: 15 hours per week (negotiable)
- Salary: $35 - $45 per hour (depending on experience and knowledge)
Responsibilities:
As an Employment Mentor within the current job, you will:
- Work with the young person’s supervisors and peers to promote them as a valued colleague, and strengthen their integration in the workplace
- Use creative problem-solving to identify challenges, put solutions in place and enhance the young person’s job performance
- Support mastery of tasks and identify additional tasks aligned with the young person’s strengths and interests
As an Employment Mentor looking for a new job for the young person, you will:
- Work with the young person to identify strengths, interests and job options
- Connect the young person to a valued job that aligns with his passion for fitness
- Mentor them as they start in a new workplace (and then mentor them in line with the responsibilities above for the current role)
Overall responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn about, or bring experience in, customised employment strategies and apply them in this role
- Build strong relationships to foster personal and professional growth for the person you are mentoring
Qualities and Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities - you genuinely enjoy working with people
- Observant, curious and respectful - you can work with people from all walks of life
- Organised with attention to detail - you take responsibility for your role in the team and can see things through
- Creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills - you bring ideas and solutions
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to individual learning styles - you can learn and apply new information
- Willingness to reflect, learn and contribute to a small team
- Genuine interest in developing your knowledge of customised employment - you are looking for training and development
- Previous experience in mentoring or coaching is a plus

- A current National Police Check, WWVP card or the ability to apply for each
- Driver's license and own vehicle that is comprehensively insured
