Your role

You are part of the IIG team in the role of “Impact Analyst—real estate and project management specialist” reporting to the Chief Impact Officer. Your role is based in Melbourne, Australia. The highest value of the role is to take the IIG community on a journey towards creating deep and lasting positive impact. The IIG community includes the staff, investors, investee companies/ assets and other stakeholders connected to IIG (such as suppliers, prospective clients, partners, supporters). Your role requires a high level of flexibility, initiative, patience, discipline and a genuine interest in partnering with internal and external stakeholders. Your main responsibilities are outlined below.

Tasks and responsibilities

Your role may include:

  • Supporting IIG’s impact strategy in order to deliver the positive social and environmental impact in IIG’s mission;
  • Working with the Chief Impact Officer, investment teams, and operational staff during deal origination and due diligence to assess opportunities for social and environmental impact;
  • Working with stakeholders of IIG’s investments to design and execute impact plans which deliver significant social and environmental impact of assets, particularly real estate assets;
  • Supporting impact management and measurement approaches across assets, portfolios and business units, with specific emphasis on supporting the property portfolio;
  • Instilling impact-focused capabilities, processes and culture internally across IIG;
  • Contributing to and supporting IIG's communications around impact management and measurement including newsletters, reports, presentations, and representation at conferences and events;
  • Conducting project-specific work that may include project management efforts to support the impact team and investment teams, particularly around large real estate projects;
  • Supporting investment teams, operational staff, and the Chief Impact Officer in committee work, advisory groups, and special projects that may require project management, desktop research, note taking, presentation development, coordinating group communication, stakeholder engagement, data collection, data analysis, writing reports etc.
  • Supporting impact and annual reporting.

Skills, Capabilities and Characteristics

In order to be successful in this role, it is envisaged you will possess the following types of skills, capabilities, and characteristics:

  • Have experience working in areas related to ‘impact,’ such as: community organisations, project evaluations or research, purpose-led businesses, environmental analysis, sustainable development, renewable energy, green buildings, policy advocacy, etc.
  • Have significant experience related to sustainability and the built environment;
  • Have relevant expertise to project manage teams around environmental impact assessments, including managing third-party certification consultants (e.g. NABERs, Green Building Council of Australia), tenants (particularly in the creative industry and ‘makers’ and craftsmen related to a significant real estate development project focused on retaining creative industry), relevant policy makers (e.g. planning and permitting relating to environmental or social benefit) etc.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage different projects and lines of work simultaneously;
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Have some analytical and or technical capabilities related to impact measurement and impact management;
  • Work effectively with others whilst operating with a high level of autonomy;
  • Pro-actively devise plans and actions to improve the impact function in our business;
  • Solve issues and obstacles along the way thereby enabling the team to work in an efficient way;
  • Contribute to the overall success of the business by being an advocate of IIG externally;
  • Manage costs, expenses, budgets and project timelines effectively;
  • Set personal targets for your individual learning and development;
  • Work with a high-performance mindset;
  • Additional qualifications or certifications in social or environmental impact or assessment, sustainability, sustainable design, community engagement, stakeholder engagement, and project management are not required but would be highly valued.
