The Independent Education Union Victoria Tasmania is looking for a new Victorian-based Organiser to start work with us at the beginning of the 2023 school year.

This role involves recruiting, working with members and sub-branches to build collective strength, representing individual members on industrial matters, and negotiating with employers.

Our members work as teachers and in a variety of other roles, predominantly in Catholic and independent schools but also across other private education and training providers.

Key Selection Criteria - Essential

  • Demonstrated commitment to trade unionism and a history of activism
  • Very strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships and work as part of a team
  • The capacity to deal sensitively with members and manage interactions with employers
  • The ability to handle pressure including meeting deadlines and balancing competing work demands
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • A current Victorian driver’s licence

Favourably viewed:

  • Experience working in Victorian non-government education
  • Experience working for a union or advocacy organisation

The IEU Victoria Tasmania provides a collegial and supportive working environment with a comprehensive package of wages and conditions in accordance with the IEU Staff Agreement. IEU officers are expected to perform some out of hours work.
