ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications in media or related disciplines and have experience in developing media profiles for unions or other non-profit organisations.
THE ROLE
In this position you will work with the communications team on our print and digital communications, under the guidance of the IEU Media and Communications Coordinator
A focus of the position will be to work with the Coordinator to improve the union’s media profile in print, radio and TV, to project the voice of the union to members and the community. This will have the objective of supporting the IEU’s aims industrially and in the broader policy context.
The position will be based in Ultimo, Sydney.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supporting the IEU Media and Communications Coordinator in researching, writing and distribution of media releases and the development of associated collateral, including visual assets and social media content, editorials, and web stories.
- Proactively monitoring and responding to media opportunities daily.
- Contributing to the content and management of the IEU’s news platforms as well as contributing content to internal communication channels.
- Working with content producers on ways to make content compelling for membership growth and newsworthy for media
- Working with the IEU Comms team in consulting with IEU staff and external stakeholders
- Supporting the tracking and reporting on media performance and audience reach.
- Contributing to print publications as determined by the Coordinator
- Assisting with proofreading and other tasks as may be required from time to time
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Demonstrated ability in writing media releases and developing a media strategy (please provide examples with your application)
- Experience in working in the union movement or for a non-profit organisation to develop a media profile
- Commitment to the principles of the trade union movement
- A willingness to work collaboratively under the guidance of the Media and Communications Coordinator to produce high quality content for print and online
- Excellent communication skills, good teamwork skills and attention to detail
- Some experience with media monitoring and distribution platforms
- Basic knowledge of Adobe suite an advantage or willingness to learn
- Ability to respond quickly and collaboratively to breaking news
- A willingness to understand and target messaging to the union’s key audiences
- Ability to suggest and write stories for the union’s print publications
PAY AND CONDITIONS
- Salary: $120,000
- Hours of work: 35-hour week, occasional weekend and evening work
- Superannuation: 13.5%
