About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our thriving community health care organisation and work within a truly supportive valued based culture and engaged workforce at Access Health and Community. The Peer Support Worker – Medication Support & Recovery Service (MSRS) will provide practical and emotional support for clients and their families whose lives are significantly impacted as a result of pharmaceutical/medication misuses. This role provides the opportunity to share your experiences of recovery or role as a carer of someone with pharmaceutical/medication concerns and empower participants, their families, clinicians and the community to ultimately improve outcomes for clients and families/loved ones engaged in the MSRS. The role is a combination of individual and group work.

What you will be doing

  • Use your lived experience of mental illness/Alcohol and other drug use and recovery to support clients
  • Provide a combination of individual (one-to-one) and group supports
  • Develop and facilitate peer support groups
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to provide ‘wrap around care’ for complex clients

What you will bring

Key Selection Criteria:

  • A lived experience of mental illness/Alcohol and other drug use and recovery
  • Relevant training or enrolment or qualifications in AOD/MH Peer Work or Peer Support
  • Be willing to effectively, respectfully and appropriately use your lived experience of substance use issues and mental ill health in your role
  • Experience working from a Peer Support or Intentional Peer Support model to support clients with mental health concerns
  • Experience in speaking at or delivering community education or community engagement events

  • Excellent communication, listening and engagement skills and commitment to a collaborative, shared care approach
  • Effective time management and prioritisation skills
  • Understanding of principles of confidentiality, and rights and responsibilities of clients/consumers within a community health context
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement and health promotion principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft programs such as Word and Outlook
  • Demonstrated behaviours consistent with AccessHC values
