IDEA: Innovative Disability Engagement Australia Pty Ltd is an approved NDIS provider based in New South Wales. We provide person centred disability support services, including community participation, life skills development, personal activities, transport support, household tasks, supported living, community nursing and related NDIS supports.

Due to the growth of our services and increasing participant needs, we are seeking two dedicated Community Workers to join our team.

About the role

As a Community Worker, you will support NDIS participants to build independence, improve daily living skills, access the community and participate more confidently in social, recreational and everyday activities.

Key duties

  • Assess client needs, interview participants and plan supports to improve community access, life skills, wellbeing and participation under NDIS plans across NSW.
  • Support participants to access community activities, appointments, shopping, transport, social outings and recreational programs
  • Assist participants to develop practical life skills, including communication, confidence, personal routines, social interaction and independent participation
  • Provide support in line with participant goals, NDIS plans, behaviour support requirements and organisational procedures
  • Encourage inclusion, wellbeing, independence and meaningful participation in community life
  • Support participants during life stage transitions, employment access, community engagement and skill development activities
  • Observe participant progress, wellbeing and support needs, and report any concerns or changes to supervisors
  • Prepare accurate progress notes, case notes, incident reports and other required documentation
  • Work respectfully with families, carers, support coordinators, allied health professionals and internal team members
  • Follow workplace policies, NDIS practice standards, duty of care, privacy and safeguarding requirements

Selection criteria

  • At least a Diploma in Community Services or a closely related qualification
  • At least two years of relevant work experience in an NDIS, disability support or community services setting
  • Strong understanding of the NDIS framework, participant rights, person centred support and safeguarding obligations
  • Ability to work with participants with complex needs, including restrictive practices where applicable and within the scope of the role
  • Good communication, listening and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy, patience, reliability and a respectful approach to supporting people with disability
  • Ability to prepare clear progress notes, incident reports and support documentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and flexible shifts based on participant needs

Licences and checks

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain
  • Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain
  • First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain
  • National Police Check and overseas police check where applicable
  • Valid NSW driver licence or willingness to obtain
  • Reliable vehicle and willingness to travel between participant locations
  • Ability to provide employment references from previous employers
