ICMEC Australia serves as a crucial advocate and resource in the fight against child sexual exploitation (CSE).

Our mission is clear: to support and strengthen the professionals who detect, report, prosecute and prevent CSE facilitated online. As an independent not-for-profit organisation in Australia, we collaborate with various stakeholders, such as financial services, other corporate entities, law enforcement, policymakers, academics, and NGOs, to develop strategies to protect children from online sexual harm.

Through commitment to data-driven initiatives, training, and research, ICMEC Australia works tirelessly to prevent and combat CSE crimes, aiming to create a safer world for children.

The role:

ICMEC Australia is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support our team with bookkeeping and general administrative duties. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in accounting, office operations, and financial administration within a mission-driven organisation. It's an ideal role for an early-career professional who is passionate about making a positive impact in the community, eager to build practical skills, and ready to contribute in a fast-paced, dynamic, and outcomes-focused environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with Financial Data Entry and Record-Keeping: accurately enter and update financial transactions using Xero, ensuring records are current and properly categorised.
  • Support Reconciliation and Invoicing: Help reconcile bank statements and assist with the processing of incoming and outgoing invoices in a timely manner.
  • Payroll and Expense Tracking: assist in monitoring employee timesheets, payroll records, and organisational expenses, ensuring compliance with internal processes.
  • Document Management: Organise and maintain digital and physical financial files, including receipts, reports, and agreements, ensuring easy access and proper storage.
  • General Administrative Support: Provide day-to-day support including scheduling, managing calendars, responding to emails, filing, and maintaining office supplies.
  • Basic IT Support: Assist with troubleshooting minor IT issues, setting up workstations, managing user accounts, and coordinating with external IT providers when needed.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Holding a qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a similar area of study
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial terminology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with accounting software Xero is a plus
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An organised person with the ability to develop goals, plans, allocate resources, priorities and meet deadlines
  • Motivated, self-driven individual capable of working independently with limited supervision

What you should know

ICMEC Australia is a small team, and it is essential that the successful candidate can work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

ICMEC Australia operate under a hybrid working model, combining remote work with in-office collaboration. Our office is located in Sydney CBD, and we are looking for someone who is based in Sydney or able to travel to the office.

This position is available for part-time, three days a week, pending discussions with candidates. ICMEC Australia values flexible working hours, and we are open to discussing other arrangements for the right candidate.

This is a fixed-term contract position lasting approximately 6 months. On conclusion of the 6-month contract there is the potential for ongoing employment opportunities with ICMEC Australia.
