We are seeking a purpose-driven and creative person with extensive experience in the climate and cities/local government sector to join our team. You will lead Strategy and Partnership development for the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) in the Oceania region.

You will achieve this through working with other local government networks, climate change service providers and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will help ICLEI Oceania develop a comprehensive GCoM regional strategy, together with a fund-raising plan and project delivery over the next 6 months. A negotiated remuneration range around $100k pa is offered.

The position is currently available to the end of 2020 depending upon funding may be extended. It can be negotiated as either an employee or contract position. However a secondment or partnership from a leading local council, NGO, association, network or other organisation may be considered.

ABOUT GCOM

The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) is an initiative with over 10,000 cities worldwide committed to achieving the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to under 1.5 degrees. GCoM provides the means for local government working with their communities to measure local climate impacts, set relevant targets and implement climate response plans through a transparent and accountable process. GCoM also engages actively with other partners to share approaches, initiatives, resources and responsibilities in supporting local government climate action.

ABOUT US

ICLEI Oceania coordinates GCoM in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. It is an established local government network, not-for-profit charity working to drive systemic innovation to address climate change at the local level. ICLEI: local governments for sustainability, is an international organisation with link to a network of offices and other partners. Our work involves engaging with local councils and high profile stakeholders on a diverse range of programs. While our main office is in Melbourne CBD other locations for work can be considered during Covid19 for the right person offering an opportunity to be creative and bring new ideas.

PERSONAL QUALITIES

  • We desire a well-recognised individual within local government or climate networks with a reputation for hard work and a track record in effective partnership building and project finalisation.
  • You will be experienced in the development of strategic reports and funding proposals to a high standard with extensive experience (at least 6 years) working for local government, or with related NGO/NFP, academia, government or private business supporting local climate action.
  • You must have the ability to facilitate groups and synthesise key messages, including through hosting virtual meetings across the Oceania region.
  • You will be articulate and well organised with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Having a relevant academic qualification and experience knowledge of climate change, mitigation, adaptation and sustainability in a local government context is essential.
  • You will have excellent project planning and contract reporting skills, while working to tight timelines with a can-do attitude and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

THE POSITION

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive and enduring GCoM partnership and program coordination opportunities.
  • Establish appropriate stakeholder groups and support meetings and document outcomes.
  • Seek input from a wide range of stakeholders and partners to develop region-wide strategic approaches across all GCoM support areas, and development of implementation and fundraising plans.
  • Identify and maintain relationships with key staff within the global GCoM network including other GCoM offices and partner organisations to facilitate and coordinate expected outcomes.
  • Engage with the full range of councils, individuals and groups associated with GCoM locally and internationally including through contribution to relevant committees.
  • Make presentations on the full range of GCoM outcomes.
  • Develop information and content for the communications and parallel marketing strategy to improve program delivery and for social media accounts.
  • Contribute to the knowledge sharing platforms and encourage its use to aid regional coordination.
  • Work within a team to support the full range of GCoM outcomes and contribute to identifying new opportunities.
