The Health Workers Union (HWU) is seeking a full-time Organiser to be based in Bendigo, servicing members across Northern Victoria.
This is a dynamic, frontline role focused on recruiting new members, supporting existing members and delegates, and building strong, organised workplaces.
The HWU represents health workers across Victoria, including hospital administrative staff, personal care workers, kitchen and cleaning staff, disability and aged care workers, pathology collectors, and more. Our organisers are responsible for driving membership growth, developing workplace leaders, and resolving workplace issues in collaboration with delegates and staff.
What You’ll Do
As an Organiser, you will be the face of the union in Northern Victoria. Your work will involve:
- Recruiting new members and consistently meeting growth targets
- Building and maintaining relationships with members and delegates
- Identifying, developing, and mentoring workplace leaders and activists
- Supporting delegates to resolve issues and lead workplace change
- Providing advice and representation in workplace disputes and disciplinary matters
- Promoting union campaigns, services, and wins across worksites
- Accurately recording member interactions and contributing to campaign planning

We’re looking for a driven, professional organiser with strong communication skills and a passion for supporting working people. You’ll be:
- A confident communicator who can engage workers in conversation and build trust
- Skilled at managing your time and workload independently across a broad region
- Able to interpret and apply enterprise agreements, awards, and relevant legislation
- Organised, reliable, and focused on delivering outcomes for members
- Committed to union values and building long-term power in the workplace
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and member database (CRM) systems
Helpful Backgrounds (Not Essential)
- Experience in a union, campaign, or advocacy role
- Experience in health, aged care, disability, or a related sector
- Knowledge of industrial relations or workplace law
What We Offer
- Full-time role based in Bendigo, with travel across Northern Victoria
- Salary: $65,000–$75,000 + 11.5% super

Minimum Requirements
- Current driver’s licence
- Legal right to work in Australia
- Capacity to meet the ‘fit and proper person’ test for a Right of Entry permit
- Satisfactory National Police Check
