Our new Clean Energy Campaigner will amplify public appetite to drive political will to enable the uptake of rooftop solar on rentals, social housing, and urban industrial renewable energy zones.

You will be working with state governments in NSW and QLD, and in both state and federal elections as key opportunities to drive down the cost of living through driving the uptake of renewable energy.

Background:

Australia is a global leader in rooftop solar uptake, with the biggest uptake of domestic rooftop solar per capita. Accelerated deployment of household clean energy generation and storage is currently under review at multiple levels of government. This is critical to meeting climate goals whilst challenges are worked out with large-scale renewables.

Importantly, you will help remove barriers to solar for those who need the cost of living benefits the most: renters and people living in social housing.

Solar Citizens play a key role in securing the policy pathway for more solar uptake married with storage, through insider track lobbying, grassroots mobilisation in strategic locations, and building impactful media campaigns.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a strong understanding of state and federal political developments, and identifying campaign and media opportunities.
  • Building and maintaining productive relationships with MPs, media, community groups, and renewable energy industry representatives.
  • Contributing to the development of campaign strategy
  • Initiating and delivering regular campaign tactics, through online and other campaign communications, and helping to plan and execute the production of high-quality campaign materials including emails to our supporters, leaflets, billboards, social media content, and media releases.
  • Creating and tracking a campaign plan, work plans and activity budgets, to deliver your campaigns to budget and on schedule. Responsibility for implementation including project management.
  • Development of tactic plans and other documentation supporting the campaign plan as required.
  • Cultivating and maintaining on-the-ground relationships in NSW and QLD and possibly other states through MP/candidate meetings, public forums and other events.
  • Engaging with relevant state and federal government public consultations and submissions.
  • Work in a team advocating across state and national jurisdictions to deliver strategic outcomes.
  • Assisting with strategic fundraising to help fuel our campaigns.

Selection criteria:

  • Motivated by the opportunity to drive social and political change.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Demonstrated political analysis and judgement, including understanding the nuances of working as an independent organisation in a highly political non-partisan environment.
  • Experience in working in partnership with other organisations to deliver on common goals
  • Experience in campaigning, or able to demonstrate the skills of a campaigner and the ability to adapt these to a new context
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a changing and fast-paced environment, with outstanding results.
  • Ability to contribute to a team, whilst working independently.
  • The ability for occasional travel, evening work, and weekends as required.

Desirable qualities:

  • Familiarity with the Nationbuilder platform (CRM, email dispatch, CMS), Dogooder, Canva, Google business apps and Facebook.
  • Familiarity with the electricity sector and/or renewable energy industry.

About the role:

Solar Citizens staff enjoy a hybrid working environment with a core Greater Sydney-based team. Intermittent travel is required for this role, and applicants from outside of Greater Sydney will be considered. Solar Citizens is a flexible workplace with four weeks’ leave plus one week of end-of-year closure. We would consider job-sharing arrangements for the right candidates.

This role is a full-time role salary range of $85, 000 - $95,000. Offers outside of this range will be considered for the right candidate, commensurate with experience.
