South West NRM has an opportunity for a Community Relations and Communications Manager to join our growing team to lead the organisation's communication, marketing, stakeholder relations and brand management activities.

South West NRM, formerly South West Catchments Council, is a profit-for-purpose organisation committed to building healthy and productive ecosystems in the south-west of Western Australia. We're one of 54 peak regional natural resource management (NRM) bodies across Australia responsible for delivering innovative solutions to environmental challenges across the natural and farmed landscapes. We're also an incorporated association with ten members organisations.

The role

This new position will amplify the organisation's profile following a recent renaming and rebranding exercise. It will be responsible for managing the organisation's communications with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. It will also coordinate community engagement activities.

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to build and maintain an in-depth understanding of the organisation and wider sector's activities.
  • Developing and maintaining the South West NRM communications and engagement strategy and ensuring compliance with brand guidelines.
  • Developing, maintaining and delivering an advocacy strategy, to support the brand position as an influential organisation.
  • Planning, scheduling and delivering communications relating to the organisation and its activities, through a variety of channels including, but not limited to, media releases, website, newsletters, social and print media and events.
  • Copy and content creation for social media.
  • Maintaining and driving engagement with the South West NRM website and social media channels.
  • Acting as the primary Nominated Approver of all communication materials relating to South West NRM, including those produced by contractors and partners.
  • Ensuring communications procedures and processes are adhered to.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, Board of Management, Association members, contractors and partners, the public, funders and supporters.
  • Coordinating organisational community engagement activities including, but not limited to, surveys, workshops and consultation activities.
  • Providing support and advice to Executive Team on matters of strategic importance relating to community relations and communications.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a customer relationship management system. 
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual requirements e.g., acknowledgement of funding sources.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures relating to communications and community engagement.
  • Identifying potential philanthropic partners and developing compelling pitches to secure funding.
  • Building relationships and key contacts with the media
  • Monitoring and reporting on community relations and communications activities.
  • Supervising contractors and consultants where required.
  • Complying with Work Health and Safety guidelines, Code of Conduct and other organisational policies and procedures.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for a self-motivated, highly-organised and dynamic communication professional who is passionate about the environment and sustainability. You will be commercially astute, have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy applying creative approaches to communications and community relations.

Essential skills and experience include:

  • A tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in one of the following: communications; marketing; public relations.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating organisational communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in engaging with a range of stakeholders from varied backgrounds.
  • Excellent copywriting abilities.
  • Ability to use WordPress web content management system.
  • Ability to maintain and utilise a customer relationship database.
  • Current WA driver's licence
  • Occasional ability to work outside of standard office hours where required.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office or similar, including databases. 
  • Australian residency or eligibility to legally work in Australia.

These skills and experience are desirable, but not essential: 

  • A qualification or recognised training in community engagement, public participation, and consultation methods.
  • Understanding of search engine optimisation.
  • Experience in event planning.
  • Graphic design skills.
  • Photography skills. 

The package

This is a full-time position located at the Bunbury office. A 12-month extendable contract is on offer for a salary of $100,000 to $110,000 p.a., based on relevant experience and qualifications.
