An exciting opportunity has become available for a Domestic Violence Family Support Worker to join the HCC team, based at Stafford Cottage in Bowral.

The Domestic Violence Family Support Worker provides specialised and comprehensive case management to women and children experiencing domestic violence. This role will have a client-centred, trauma-informed approach and provide individual and family support, referrals, advocacy, safety planning, risk assessment, crisis intervention and coordination of services to the client. Networking and raising awareness of community issues through engagement with interagency networks and other stakeholders is also a key component of this role. The Domestic Violence Family Support Worker may also responsible for the design, implementation and delivery of short educational programs for clients.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • Minimum Diploma in Community Services or higher level qualifications.
  • Minimum 4 years experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of domestic/family violence and working in the field of domestic/family violence including knowledge of and familiarity with legal and other aspects of DV and child protection.
  • Demonstrated understanding of client-centred, and trauma-informed approaches to care.
  • Current Working With Children Check.
  • Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act.

Desirable:

  • Current Police/Criminal History Check.
  • Current First Aid qualification.
  • Min. Class C Drivers Licence.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of social justice and equity.
  • Experience working with people experiencing domestic and family violence.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and CALD people.
  • Experience working with people in crisis and disadvantaged circumstances.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Understanding of the legislative and regulatory requirements relevant to the role.
  • Experience leading a program/project from design to implementation to evaluation.
  • Understanding of the role of advocacy, and thorough knowledge of community sector.
  • Able to conduct needs assessments, analyse and put forward solutions to identified community issues.
  • Competent IT user including computer systems, email, social media and web-based programs.
