If that is not incentive enough Hepburn House is also offering one months free accommodation in a fully furnished one- or 2-bedroom apartment, with a further 2 months at $220-$350 per week for new full-time workers who need to relocate. The facility will also be running courses in Certificate 3 in aged care on site.

The job description is as follows.

Responsible for the delivery of person centred care. The personal care worker will support resident’s individual wellbeing, needs for social interaction, dignity, respect and personal care assistance

Conditions of Employment

  • According to the Daylesford Aged Care Services and Staff Contract of Employment.
  • Current satisfactory NDIS certificate
  • General background Statutory declaration

Qualifications, skills and experience

Essential:

  • Certificate 111 or 1V in Aged Care OR
  • Certificate 111 or 1V in Home and Community Care
  • Demonstrated skills in meeting the care needs of residents
  • Understanding of Person Based care and what constitutes quality care
  • Ability to provide sensitive, inclusive care to all residents and especially those from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Queer/Questioning Intersex and Asexual communities.

Desirable:

  • Experience with managing residents with dementia
  • Knowledge of aged care documentation.

Statement of Responsibilities

Person care workers assist in the delivery of Person Centred care by:

  • Personal care workers at Hepburn House are to continue to change away from task orientation to Person Centred care.
  • Organise work routines based on resident preferences
  • Be proactive and contribute to finding better ways of dealing with everyday situations related to resident care.
  • Promote socialisation and support resident’s lifestyle choices to improve their quality of life.
  • Provide sensitive, inclusive care to all residents and especially those from Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Queer/Questioning Intersex and Asexual communities
  • Promote dignity, privacy and confidentiality of each resident

Other responsibilities

  • Professional completion of all documentation, charts , lists and forms
  • Assist with completion of documentation as required.
  • Assist with cleaning / laundry duties as required.
  • Assist with personal care provided to residents with cognitive and physical decline in the specialised area of skin care, showering, dressing and grooming, meals and drinks, mobility and transfers, continence and toileting.
  • Ensure manual handling guidelines are adhered to as directed by the physiotherapist
  • Medication management –has been completed in accordance to medication policy
  • BGL recording if competency has been completed. Weights and observations as scheduled
  • Adheres to staff meal break schedules
  • Will ensure a working pager is carried at all times.
  • Responds to call bells in a timely manner.
  • Reports any allegations or suspicions of a reportable incident immediately to the Facility Manager.
  • Reports all health issues / concerns of residents immediately to the Registered Nurse.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement
  • Personal care workers are encouraged to contribute to the continuous improvement plan with suggestions for improvement.

Employee Training and Development

  • Mandatory attendance at education sessions.
  • Attendance at all training / E Learning as requested by the Care / Facility Manager
  • Organisation and attendance at all meetings relevant to your role.

Work Health and Safety

  • Identifies and reports any environmental hazards
  • Ensures accidents and incidents are reported.
  • Aware of all fire management/ emergency systems

Role model

  • Ability to participate actively and constructively within the team.
  • Ability to accept accountability and responsibility for their role at Hepburn House.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and promote a positive work environment.
  • Patience and approachability in all dealings with staff, residents, relatives and visitors.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
