BACKGROUND

Climate change is the greatest global health threat of the 21st century, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide every year through increased extreme weather events, crop failures, famine and spread of infectious diseases. Combustion of fossil fuels for electricity in Australia contributes to climate change and also kills hundreds of Australians every year through toxic air pollution that leads to cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Many healthcare workers in Australia would like to help address these issues but lack pathways to create systemic change. Our aim is to organise these healthcare workers to advocate to reduce pollution and protect health.
