Practice Information:

This is a young and growing medical practice with a strong focus on internal multidisciplinary team integration and external collaboration with like-minded providers. They aim to provide exceptional primary healthcare to the community in a safe, culturally appropriate environment. Their patient-focused approach includes outreach services and mobile clinics, promoting good health and reducing inequalities. They prioritise health promotion and prevention and empower our patients to make long term, sustainable changes.

The practice specialises in Indigenous health, mental wellbeing, disability supports, advance care planning, LGBTIQ+ and family planning. They offer a range of billing options including Medicare, DVA, NDIS, mixed and private billing. They focus on quality, safety, performance, and accountability in a warm and welcoming environment. The practice offers a supportive work culture and focus on integrated multidisciplinary support, including weekly case conferencing for complex clients/patients.

About the Role:

The practice is currently seeking a Speech Pathologist to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting assessments, developing individualised treatment plans, and providing evidence-based intervention services to clients with communication and swallowing disorders. They will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide a holistic approach to client care.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to identify communication and swallowing difficulties and disorders in clients, including NDIS assessments.
  • Develop individualised written treatment plans to address client's communication goals and needs.
  • Provide evidence-based intervention services to help clients improve their speech, language, and communication skills.
  • Develop and carry out individual or group treatment plans and evaluate outcomes.
  • Provide specialist advice, teaching, and training to other practice team members.
  • Conduct dysphagia assessments and recommend appropriate diets and swallowing strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and progress.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide a holistic approach to client care.
  • Provide education and support to clients, their families, and caregivers about communication strategies to promote independence and social participation.
  • Use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies to support clients who are unable to communicate using speech alone.
  • Advocate for clients to ensure they receive the appropriate services, support, and funding to achieve their goals and maintain their independence.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Speech and Language Therapy from a recognised institution
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Speech Pathologist
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Experience in providing services to clients with a range of communication and swallowing disorders
  • 2 years of post-graduate experience as a registered SLT
  • Direct experience working with diverse groups, specifically in mental health, aboriginal health, disability and LGBTIQ+

  • Ability to write comprehensive clinical notes, implement and evaluate care plans
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Confidence in the completion of reports for NDIS clients
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse patient population
  • Cultural competence and experience working with vulnerable clients
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent standard of written and spoken English.
