Health Workforce Queensland

ABOUT HEALTH WORKFORCE QUEENSLAND

Health Workforce Queensland is a not for profit, non-Government Rural Workforce Agency (RWA) for primary health workforce in Queensland, focused on making sure remote, rural, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities have access to highly skilled health professionals when and where they need them, now and into the future. Our Vision is to ensure an optimal health workforce to enhance the health of Queensland communities

Practice Information:

This practice is a seven-doctor rural general practice situated in the South Burnett towns of Murgon and Wondai, about two hours drive to the Sunshine Coast and three hours from Brisbane.

The practice provides for the full scope of rural general practice and the presentations are extremely varied catering for general medical presentations to farm injuries and indigenous health - no two days are ever the same.

The opportunity to have access to nursing home residents and hospital inpatient care is available for anyone interested. Mixed billing is the practice policy with patient not holding a concession card privately billed and the remainder bulk billed.

About Wondai & Murgon:

Murgon and Wondai are small rural towns with excellent recreational and sporting facilities. The local schools have an excellent reputation. Kingaroy is the regional centre and provides excellent shopping variety. There has been a significant population growth since the onset of COVID-19 with many metropolitan people re-locating and expressing satisfaction with their choice which is strengthening the area greatly.

Position Description:

As three of the practice doctor's are retiring this year, the practice's situation is critical to continue providing the wide ranges of services that they offer for their patients. This allows doctors to offer services in their area of special interest and the practices are well equipped with Murgon hosting the South Burnett Skin Cancer Clinic with a dedicated operating theatre. The practice is a teaching practice, for GP registrars and medical students and has a long history of mentoring in both areas

After Hours Requirements: Yes

This involves telephone contact from patients seeking advice or calls from the two local nursing homes. Weekend call involves a Saturday morning clinic and telephone call thereafter every one in 4-5 weekends depending on doctor numbers. This is certainly not arduous with the practice providing a mobile phone for phone contact.

Qualifications & Experience:

Applicants must hold the necessary qualifications from AHPRA to provide rural general practice. The practice has had many OTD's over the last 20 years but is not able to provide Level 1 supervision although other supervision requirements are entirely possible.

Additional Information:

Two modern fully furnished houses with 4 bedrooms are rented by the practice for accommodation which can be negotiated with interested applicants. A full practice profile will be sent by separate email.
