headspace is the national youth mental health foundation supporting the mental, emotional and physical well being of young people aged 12 to 25 and their families.

360 health + community is the lead agency for three headspace centres; headspace Fremantle, headspace Rockingham, and headspace Mandurah. Working across the southern corridor allows us to collaborate internally and externally, share skills and knowledge, and create robust governance.

The Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, dynamic and personable Community Engagement Officer. You will join our headspace Rockingham team on a permanent part time basis. As a Community Engagement officer you will be a talented communicator and relationship builder, who will have a strong focus on improving outcomes for young people and their families.

The headspace Community Engagement Officer will work under the direction of the headspace Manager and 360 Health + Community to increase the awareness of headspace in the community. The headspace Community Engagement Officer will also champion the involvement of young people throughout the headspace model and act as the facilitator for the headspace Youth Reference Group (YRG).

The incumbent will work closely and collaboratively with other members of the 360 team, the headspace consortium and the wider community. The incumbent will ensure all activities are in accordance with  the Grant Agreement and direction provided by the CEO, headspace Consortium and Youth Reference Group.

Essential Criteria

  • Possession of qualifications in Health Sciences, Health Promotions or similar or equivalent experience in the are
  • Ability to develop suitable content and be able to disseminate and present this information to headspace stakeholders and the wider community
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues and factors that influence the mental, physical, social and emotional well-being of young people aged 12 to 25 years of age and their families 
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to engage with, establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of people, including young people, health professionals, educators, academic researchers, and service providers
  • Experience in the use of electronic client/customer management systems
  • Ability to use a desktop computer, with familiarity with the Microsoft Windows environment and Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated experience in the creation, coordination and delivery of community-based programs and events. This would include a strong understanding what of activities and events would be suitable for young people aged 12 to 25 years
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of the provision of assessment and treatment services as well as other best practice mental health interventions.
  • Police Clearance
  • Current WA Driver’s License and roadworthy registered vehicle
  • Working with Children Check

Desirable Attributes 

  • Self-motivated with ability to display initiative
  • Participation in the maintenance of a Quality Management System as part of a team.
  • Current knowledge of Occupational Health Safety and Equal Employment Opportunity principles and practices.
  • Knowledge and skills in Desktop Publishing
  • Grant writing experience
