What is headspace Connect

headspace Connect was developed under the Wait Time Reduction program to provide free online telephone/video support and counselling services to young people aged 16 - 25, as an alternative to young people waiting on the centre waitlist and it is part of the Digital Mental Health Programs (DMHP) suite of services offered through headspace national

The headspace Connect Clinician provides brief evidence-based intervention for up to 10 weeks for young people referred from our partnering headspace centres and offers an alternative service for young people seeking mental health care

About the role

The Senior Clinician in this service will provide therapeutic mental health support as an alternative option for young people requesting 1:1 therapeutic support from the participating centres as well as provide line management support to Clinicians working in this team. This ideal candidate will be able to work either part time or full time from 0.8 to 1.00FTE

Key deliverables of this role will be:

  • Supervise a multi-disciplinary team
  • Clinical supervision, following the principle of continuous improvement in practice.
  • Provide clinical and operational guidance and instruction
  • Undertake assessments with young people and provide a collaborative, inclusive, evidence informed and person-centred intervention via telephone, video, e-mail and online.
  • Be responsible for leading clinical decision making in accordance with clinical and escalation procedures.

Who we're looking for

headspace is seeking:

  • Approved tertiary qualification in an allied health discipline, including Social Work, Psychology (clinical, counselling, and 4+2 or 5+1 pathway), Mental Health Nursing, and Occupational Therapy with 5 years post qualification experience, or a Masters in Counselling (minimum Level 4, ACA).
  • Eligibility for membership of an appropriate professional body. Social workers are required to be eligible for full membership with the AASW. Psychologists, Mental Health Nurses, and Occupational Therapists are required to have full registration with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in the capacity to lead a team in the delivery of quality therapeutic practice.
  • Advanced skills in assessment, planned therapeutic intervention and safety planning in order that the support for young people experiencing mental distress is commensurate with evidence informed, best practice principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of youth mental health practice and principles including a thorough and holistic understanding of the complex factors contributing to mental distress in young people.
  • Advanced analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively problem solve and negotiate, applying this to line management and advocating for positive and sustainable outcomes for young people accessing the service.
  • Advanced knowledge, understanding and commitment to leading reflective practice and professional development activities (including seeking consultation and support from the Senior Clinical Advisor and leadership team, where appropriate).
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and policies to support vulnerable young people at risk of serious harm.
  • A thorough commitment to participating in activities supporting ongoing research and evaluation of the service and organisation.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member in a time pressured role whilst managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong alignment with the values of the organisation
