Established in 2006, headspace is a well-recognised, national not-for-profit organisation making a difference to the lives of young people aged 12-25 years. The Regional Phone Counselling Service is part of a targeted package, which aims to enhance mental health services to young people in Victorian and New South Wales secondary school communities. The program involves a phone/video counselling service for young people living in regional and rural areas, more than 60 kms from a headspace centre or school communities impacted by natural disasters

Tell me about the role…

The headspace Regional Phone Counselling Service provides digital mental health services to young people and where appropriate, their families, including screening; assessment; delivery of psychological interventions; and information and referral to face-to-face services. Clinicians work closely with the student wellbeing teams from the nominated schools to accept referrals, collaborate around the clinical care of young people and to provide support to school communities, as required.

Who are we looking for?

  • Our ideal candidate has an approved tertiary qualification in an allied health discipline, including social work, psychology, mental health nursing, and occupational therapy, or a master's in counselling. Those with a Masters in Counselling need to have eligibility for full professional registration at a minimum of Level 3 within the Australian Counselling Association scope of practice guidelines.
  • A sound knowledge of the common mental health issues faced by young people and skilled in assessments, planned therapeutic interventions and safety planning.
