headspace Telehealth works in partnership with eligible headspace centres, Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and other participating agencies, to ensure all young people and clinicians in rural and remote Australia, can access a psychiatrist via video.

headspace has contractor psychiatry positions which are flexible, part-time and can work around your busy schedule.

Tell me about the role…

By joining headspace Telehealth, you'll provide:

  • Primary Consultations with young Australians (12 -25 years old) living in rural or remote areas of Australia, with access to a psychiatrist assessment as part of their mental health care in consultation with their GP. These are MBS billed.
  • Secondary Consultations with tailored support and supervision to headspace centre clinicians through either:
    • Consultations (specific cases, mental health themes, general management advice, multidisciplinary team reviews), or,
    • Webinars (upskilling centre staff on themes - such as anxiety and depression, alcohol and drug, psychotropic therapy, gender dysphoria and eating disorders)
    • Direct GP consultations to support and assist in a young person's treatment plan

What we're looking for (Key Selection Criteria)

headspace is seeking applicants with:

  • Significant experience in youth mental health and are either a Child and Adolescent or Adult psychiatrist
  • Comprehensive knowledge of issues facing young people and their mental health
  • Expertise in any of the following areas:
    • Psychosis
    • Mood disorders including Bipolar Affective disorders
    • Anxiety disorders
    • Emerging Personality Disorders
    • Comorbid drug and alcohol issues
    • Diagnose ADHD or pervasive developmental disorders
    • Gender dysphoria
    • Eating disorders
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work and engage via online platforms
  • Have recognition with Medicare for billing, APHRA REGISTRATION
  • In addition to standard credentialing requirements (CV, WWCC, Police Check etc.) Telehealth Psychiatrists are required to also provide the following:
  • Fellowship with Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). This qualifies psychiatrists to practice independently as a Consultant Psychiatrist. https://www.ranzcp.org/home
  • Certificates of Currency for public liability and professional indemnity insurances - typically to the value of $20,000,000 for any one claim.
  • Australian Business Number (ABN) to be verified through ABN Lookup https://abr.business.gov.au/ When verifying AHPRA registration, Telehealth Psychiatrists are required to hold registration as a Medical Practitioner within the specialty area of Psychiatry.

headspace Telehealth manages the Primary and Secondary consult bookings and billing process. The technology is simple and easy to use in your home office and you'll be supported by the Telehealth team with establishment and IT support.

Note: Expectations are that you would have a mix of primary and secondary consultations.
