About The Role

The Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) represents the interests of workers in the disability, mental health and alcohol & other drugs sectors across VIC.

An exciting opportunity exists for a full-time experienced and dynamic finance / book keeper.

You will be working in a fast paced environment with a variety of duties including:

The functions of the position are to provide effective and efficient accounting/book keeping and payroll services, to ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act and other Legislative requirements, to provide strategic advice on financial management and budgeting and, in collaboration with the Union leadership, to appraise changes in the Legislative Framework that necessitate changes in Union financial reporting requirements and record keeping.

The principal accountabilities fall into a range of areas: Accounting, Internal Controls and Contract Management

While experience in the trade movement is not a requirement of the role, it is essential that the successful can demonstrate their commitment to the values of the Trade Union Movement.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Proven experience in providing a high level of accounting/book keeping and finance management, advice and support, including information analysis and budgeting.
  • Experience with an electronic financial information management systems, filing systems and procedures. Computer and software proficiency in MYOB Account Plus V18, Data Base applications, CBA Commbiz – Bank Online Software, Microsoft Office products, particularly MS word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Internet and Email.
  • Effectively and appropriately use workplace information systems, including internet, email and electronic calendar.
  • Ability to manage projects through to completion.
  • Well-developed communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and assist others to meet their objectives.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organisational skills and to work independently, prioritise work and to ensure deadlines are achieved.
  • Demonstrated professional approach when engaging with internal contacts [Union officials, staff, employer groups, delegates and members] and external contacts [service and business related providers].
  • Record of trusted relationships regarding security and privacy of the organisation's financial and payroll information.
