Are you an excellent communicator, with a passion for leading, directing and supporting a team of 4  as well as members of the union? If so – an exciting opportunity has opened at the Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) for a full-time Assist Coordinator. 

Organisational Context

HACSU is one of Victoria’s fastest growing unions. Our members are at the forefront of nation-changing initiatives such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and reforms to the public mental health system. HACSU is the Victorian No2 Branch of the Health Services Union.

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and driven individual who can lead, direct the HACSU Assist team and build relationships with HACSU members. 

HACSU Assist is one of the most important teams in the union. It is sometimes the first and only contact members have with the union. The team provides advice, support, and guidance to HACSU members regarding all aspects of their workplace issues.  

Reporting to the Senior Industrial Officer and the Assistant Branch Secretary of HACSU, the successful applicant will have the responsibility of directing the HACSU Assist team on a day to day basis, providing the team with information and advice, addressing team members concerns, conducting team meetings, addressing members concerns as well as provide information and support to members by telephone and via email..  

The role is a senior role within HACSU due to the level of responsibility involved.

The Assist Coordinator will be part of a team of 4 individuals. The successful candidate must have good personal and communication skills and be able to assist members with a warm and friendly attitude and lead the HACSU Assist team.  

The Person

We are seeking candidates who have a strong understanding of and commitment to the union movement and can confidentially and compassionately speak to members and assist them with their questions. 

They will also be efficient in basic administrative tasks. 

They must also have high level IT skills.

Experience in workers’ rights, and advocacy would be beneficial.

Knowledge of the Disability and/or the Mental Health Sector would be beneficial, but not essential.

Benefits

This is a full-time position (38-hours per week, Monday to Friday) and the successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the HACSU Enterprise Agreement which includes:

  • Generous salary and superannuation package
  • 5 weeks’ annual leave
  • 13 Rostered Days Off (RDOs) per year

The position is based in our office in Carlton, Victoria.
