The Great Victoria Desert Biodiversity Trust is a small, not-for-profit organisation working in the Great Victoria Desert to assist in conserving biodiversity and particularly, protecting threatened animals in the region.
The Trust recognises and celebrates the enduring connection of Traditional Owners to country and the important role Traditional Owners play in managing and protecting the natural environment.
About the role
The Operations Manager reports to the Chair of the Trust for organisational matters and to the Founders Management Panel member for administrative matters.
The Operations Manager:
- Develops and manages conservation projects and the contracts focused on threatened species, ecosystems, and landscapes, to conserve biodiversity
- Co-develops/co-designs projects with Traditional Owners to support them to manage the culture and country, to conserve biodiversity using culturally-appropriate techniques
- Builds, manages, and maintains relationships with stakeholders
- Prepares reports to the Board on the Trust’s projects, partnerships and on project development
- Manages existing projects
- Manages the administrative running of the Trust to ensure it remains compliant with the Trust Deed and reporting requirements
Requirements of position
Criteria
- 5 years’ demonstrated competency and experience working with Traditional Owners particularly in remote environments
- A tertiary degree in Conservation Biology or Environmental Science or similar
- 5 years’ demonstrated competency and experience developing and managing projects from inception to completion
- Experience managing budgets
- Demonstrated competency and experience in building relationships with stakeholders and partner organisations
- Demonstrated experience preparing reports and business cases
- Experience reporting to a Board
Desirable
- Demonstrated experience undertaking co-design projects and negotiations with Traditional Owners
- Demonstrated experience working in or managing projects in remote / desert regions
- Demonstrated experience using adaptive management principles for outcomes delivery
The role can be full time or part time based on preferences of the preferred candidate. The role will be a combination of working from home and office-based work.
