Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) works to alleviate poverty and promote self-determination for the Banjima, Yinhawangka and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia.

WHO WE ARE

GAC represents the Banjima, Yinhawangka and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia. GAC was established in 1996 following negotiations with Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, to advocate for the collective interests of the Traditional Owners.

We are a membership-based organisation and serve around 2,000 Members across Western Australia, Australia and the world.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This position provides high-level administrative, secretarial and project support to the Pilbara Regional Manager and to other members of the Pilbara leadership team, including Housing, Heritage, Community Projects and our early childhood education program. The objective is to ensure efficient delivery of services provided by the Operational leaders; and maintain and build Gumala’s engagement with the local communities and stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage travel and accommodation requests and bookings.
  • Obtain quotes, place orders and purchase goods and services.
  • Undertake project work as required, including information collation, and identification of issues requiring management follow up.
  • Attending meetings and taking accurate meeting minutes.
  • Processing invoices and credit card reconciliations.
  • Ensure staff transit houses are properly maintained at all times.
  • Ensure queries and correspondence are dealt with appropriately and escalated when necessary.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with local community entities.
  • Coordinate GAC’s participation in annual events such as NAIDOC week.

ABOUT YOU

  • Administration and office experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Completion of Cert II or III in Business or related qualification is highly regarded.
  • An awareness and understanding of the challenges facing remote communities.
  • Current WA Driver's License.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Part time position - 30 hours a week
  • Annual salary $68,000 pro rata
  • Salary packaging to reduce your taxable income and boost your take home pay
  • Subsidised rental accommodation for those not currently living in Tom Price
