The Greens (WA) is hiring a staff member to build capacity within the party during a non-election period.

About The Role:

We’re looking for someone passionate, organised and experienced to join The Greens (WA) campaign team as our Campaigns and Engagement Officer. The successful applicant will work directly under the State Director to engage with The Greens (WA) members and volunteers to increase capacity within the party and maintain momentum outside of election periods.

The Campaigns and Engagement Officer will grow our volunteer movement and be instrumental in maintaining campaign activities outside the election cycle. They will be the first point of contact for volunteers and Greens (WA) Working Groups. This is an exciting role for a passionate and driven people-person who wants to grow our Green movement. It is imperative that the successful applicant be skilled in building supportive and productive relationships.

The role is covered by The Greens (WA) Agreement 2020. The Greens (WA) office is in Perth.

Salary: Project Support 1-2. ($71,224.77 - $77,397.13 p.a. pro rata)

Workload: 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week)

Duration: 12 month fixed term contract with the possibility of extension. This role offers the opportunity for progression.

Start Date: Flexible from October 7th 2022.

About You:

While experience will be an advantage, you might not have worked in politics before - but you’re passionate about making change in the community and in Parliament. You’re positive, proactive, and someone who is excited to come up with new ideas and find solutions to problems. You’re a people person who is comfortable picking up the phone to chat with volunteers you haven’t met yet, and working with people of all ages and levels of tech skill in person and remotely. You’ll get the opportunity to try a great variety of new things, so this role would really suit someone who is looking to grow their skills, willing to give new things a crack, and grow alongside our next campaign.

Primary Responsibilities:

The role and duties will change and respond to the campaign environment and its exciting opportunities. Your essential duties will include:

  • Work as part of a team to deliver (and support members and volunteers to deliver) successful campaigns and outreach events. These may include by-elections, local government elections, issues based campaigns, or other local campaigns and their associated activities.
  • Support the Greens (WA) to meet their fundraising targets by supporting the delivery of fundraising events, execution of donations campaigns, and development of major donor relationships.
  • Support volunteer and membership onboarding and retention by onboarding new volunteers and providing support to regional groups and working groups.
  • Deliver training events, create training resources, and provide technical support for Greens (WA) systems (including Civi, Rocket, and gVIRS) to members and campaigns. Training may be delivered face to face, remote online, or as recorded or written training resources.
  • Other duties as directed.

General requirements:

  • Work collaboratively with The Greens (WA) staff and volunteer team.
  • Work in accordance with The Greens (WA) Occupational Health and Safety Policy, the Access and Inclusion Policy, The Greens (WA) Confidential Documents Policy and other workplace compliance policies and practices.
  • You must hold, or be prepared to acquire, a WA Working With Children Check.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings at times, is essential to this role.

Your Skills & Experience:

Please address the following criteria by providing examples of how you have demonstrated each point in your previous working or volunteering experience.

  • Understanding of and commitment to The Greens (WA) principles and policies, and an understanding of the Western Australian political landscape.
  • Strong rapport-building and persuasive communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and problem solving skills, including managing your time in a fast-paced environment, multi-tasking, creating and achieving goals, and finding creative solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to pick up new IT systems quickly.
  • Demonstrated experience working supportively and collaboratively with a diverse range of people.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering training or developing skills in staff or volunteers.

The following would also be desirable:

  • Experience working in politics or advocacy.
  • Experience delivering the following field campaign tactics; door-knocking, phone-banking and community events.
  • Experience supporting the execution of a fundraising strategy, or developing relationships with potential donors.
  • Experience with leading a team of staff and/or volunteers.
  • Experience using Greens systems like Civi, Rocket, or GVIRS, or experience with a similar CRM in your work or volunteering role.
