ABOUT THE ROLE
The Richmond Campaign Committee is seeking a highly skilled, energetic and experienced Campaign Manager to lead candidate Mandy Nolan’s campaign for the marginal and winnable Federal seat of Richmond. The Campaign Manager is responsible for developing and delivering on a high quality, innovative and research-supported campaign strategy - including communications, fundraising, field activities and staffing requirements. They will work closely with the Candidate, Campaign Committee, Greens NSW and Australian Greens, and will oversee staff. This is a dynamic role that would suit someone with extensive experience in electoral or political campaigning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Richmond Campaign Manager will work closely with the Candidate (Mandy Nolan), the Richmond Campaign Committee, Australian Greens and Greens NSW to lead Mandy’s campaign for the seat of Richmond.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing, implementing and reviewing the overall campaign strategy, in conjunction with the Richmond Campaign Committee (RCC) and Candidate:
- Including paths to victory, field targets, key tactics for vote shifting, campaign timeline/s and staffing plans
- Setting campaign fundraising targets, reviewing targets, and leading the digital and relational fundraising for the campaign
- Leading the development, testing, refining and reviewing of key voter messaging for the campaign
- Developing and rolling out key supporter narrative and messaging
- Coordinating the development and implementation of communications, field and materials plans alongside the campaign team
- Throughout campaign identifying new political opportunities and leading the campaign’s response to these opportunities; messaging, tactics and resource re-allocation to meet the new opportunity
- Critically evaluating tactics throughout campaign to ensure resources are being used as strategically as possible and that the campaign innovates its tactics to maximise volunteer mobilisation and vote winning
- Regularly reviewing progress against the campaign plan and reporting regularly to RCC and other stakeholders such as GNSW Standing Campaign Committee (SCC)
- Supporting and collaborating closely with the Candidate to ensure their time is used most effectively:
- Providing political and logistical advice
- Ensuring they are prepared for events, media, etc.
- Helping to manage the candidate’s diary and engagements
- Leading and managing a campaign team:
- Working with RCC to recruit key staff such as a lead field organiser and communications lead
- Overseeing the recruitment of other campaign staff and core volunteers
- Setting and managing the workflow of the campaign staff and core volunteers
- Supporting the skills development and training of campaign staff to maximise their ability to carry out their roles
- Working collaboratively with the RCC to develop and manage a balanced campaign budget
- Ensuring full compliance with electoral legislation
- Developing and maintaining effective professional relationships with SCC members; Greens NSW party staff, office bearers, Lead Senate candidates, MPs, Upper House candidates, local campaigners and candidates, Australian Greens party staff and members of the national campaign team
- Providing written and verbal reports as required by RCC, SCC and/or State Delegates Council
- Producing a comprehensive post-election evaluation report
- Any other tasks as directed
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
This is a dynamic and rewarding role.
The Campaign Manager is expected to demonstrate:
- Senior campaign experience: You have previously worked on an election campaign in a senior role either as a campaign manager or lead organiser. You can demonstrate successfully implementing campaign strategies including digital communications, field organising and data management. You are familiar with electoral compliance requirements or have experience working within a compliance framework
- Interpersonal skills, communication and team management: You are great at coordinating people, can quickly build rapport and maintain strong relationships, including being diplomatic and assertive when required. You can demonstrate experience in managing and motivating volunteers and staff
- Collaboration, multitasking, project delivery: You have a successful track record delivering outcomes within collaborative team settings, and can effectively coordinate multiple projects on time and within budget involving diverse stakeholders
- Strategic thinking, risk management, self-starter: You have experience working effectively in a fast-paced environment, thinking quickly on your feet and solving problems as they arise. You are proactive and can both manage your own workload with minimal supervision and take direction when required
- Political judgment, alignment with Greens values: You have sound political judgment, a thorough understanding of the Australian political system and political issues on the NSW far north coast and a commitment to Greens policies and values
Notes
- Occasional evening and weekend work and travel will be required
- Successful candidates must not be a member of another political party
- You will require a current Working with Children Check or a willingness to obtain one in the first month of employment
- You will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement before commencing work
PAY AND CONDITIONS
Salary range: $101,534 to $108,299 FTE p.a. + 12% superannuation.
Primary Location: Richmond Campaign Office (TBD - within Richmond electorate).
Hours: At least 14 hours per week initially. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
Status: Initially part-time (at least 2 days per week) contract until October 2023, with a view to a full-time contract until one month after the 2024/5 federal election.
Position begins: August 2023
