This is the perfect role for a passionate campaigner and community organiser who wants to have a meaningful impact on NSW state politics. The St George Campaign Organiser will work closely with dedicated Greens volunteers and Greens staff and engage with community groups and community activists.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The St George Campaign Organiser will coordinate a range of activities for the Greens’ Lower House election campaign in the state seats of Kogarah, Oatley and Rockdale.
You will have the opportunity to be involved in a dynamic, vibrant and progressive local campaign that will connect with the community and strengthen support for progressive politics.
The Campaign Organiser will work with the candidate, the St George Campaign Committee and campaign volunteers to engage with the local community on a diverse range of local and state-wide issues across social justice and the environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Campaign Organiser is responsible for organising the 2023 State Election Campaign and is governed by the St George State Campaign Committee.
Key responsibilities include:
- Implementing an integrated campaign strategy with the Campaign Committee
- Reporting as required to the Campaign Committee and Greens NSW
- Coordinating the development and implementation of a Field Organising strategy with the Campaign Committee
- Organising: Engaging volunteers and the logistics for leafletting street stalls, door knocking, telephone banking and other campaign activities
- Event Coordination: Identifying, creating and coordinating supporter events, including forums, dinners, fundraising events and other opportunities
- Communication Support: Assistance with setting up and using digital communication tools and printed materials to support the campaign.
- Logistical Assistance: Administration support for the campaign and candidates.
- Working collaboratively with the Campaign Committee to manage a balanced campaign budget and full compliance with GNSW requirements and electoral laws
- Developing and maintaining effective professional relationships with Campaign Committee, employed staff, volunteers, local group members, Greens NSW staff and office bearers.
- Day-to-day line manager for other Campaign staff, including directing and leading their work plans.
- Producing a comprehensive post-election evaluation report
- Ensuring the engagement of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and LGBTQIA+ communities.
- Any other tasks as directed.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated experience coordinating staff and volunteers in a grassroots field campaign
- Experience implementing successful, innovative, and contemporary communications strategies, including practical knowledge of social media platforms, databases, and other online tools
- Expertise in leading, managing and motivating high-performing teams of paid and volunteer staff
- Ability to work effectively and calmly under pressure with competing deadlines
- Exceptional project management skills, including the identification and minimisation of risks
- Well-developed political judgement, and a thorough understanding of current Australian and NSW political issues and the political system
- A willingness to understand and respect the structure of Greens NSW and Australian Greens
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and organisational skills in managing competing priorities and deadlines
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence, problem-solving skills and resilience
- An understanding of the Greens and support for the party’s principles, policies, and decision-making processes
- A current NSW Drivers Licence
- A current Working with Children Check or a willingness to obtain one in the first month of employment
- Willingness to undertake evening and weekend work

KEY RELATIONSHIPS
- Operations Manager: Direct line manager
- St George Campaign Committee (via delegation): Operations and work plan supervisor; provide reports, escalate issues, keep informed and advise.
- Work team: Work collaboratively and inclusively by participating in meetings to share information, innovation, and best practice.
- Internal stakeholders: Work closely with the Greens candidate for the state seat of Kogarah, Oatley and Rockdale, other Greens NSW staff and volunteers
WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY
You must take all reasonable care for yourself and others and comply with reasonable instructions, policies and procedures relating to work health safety and wellbeing.
PAY AND CONDITIONS
- Salary range: $77,915.36 (Admin step 1) to 81,994.08 (Admin Step 3) FTE p.a. + 11.5% superannuation.
- Primary Location: The Greens NSW state office, Camperdown.
- Hours: 21 (3 days) per week. Some weekends and after-hours work will be required.
- Status: Contract until one week after the state election.

- Covered by: The Greens NSW Staff Collective Agreement.
