This role is between Maitland and Newcastle NSW.
At Greenleaf Disability Service, Support Workers work as part of a team to ensure that services are delivered in accordance with Greenleaf Disability Service vision and values and the National Disability Insurance Scheme
Support Workers work through a 24/7 roster and assist participants in their needs for daily living including personal care, domestic assistance, social support, transport and other important caring duties.

Duty Statement:
- Provide help and assistance to improve participant's daily living skills
- Provide practical assistance to people while they are developing their independent living skills
- Work alongside people in all phases of their recovery journey.
- Work with people to access services and activities in the community.
- Work as part of a multicultural and diverse team to ensure continuity and consistency of support to participants
- Adhere to administrative procedures including data collection and maintenance of participant records.
- Undertake tasks as directed by the Supervisor and Management team
- Attend all staff meetings and training
Requirements for Appointment:
The successful applicant must have:
- Experience in providing positive support to clients with challenging behaviour
- Minimum Certificate III Disability/ Community Services/ Aged Care or Mental Health equivalent
- For complex cases a Minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health is required
- A current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- A valid National Police Check (issued within 3-month period) or willing to undergo a National Police Check
- A certificate for NDIS Worker Orientation
- A current first aid certificate
- A current Australian Driver Licence
- Comprehensive car insurance
- Willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement
Selection Criteria:
Essential
- Minimum Certificate III Disability/ Community Services/ Aged Care or Mental Health equivalent.
- Minimum of Certificate IV in Mental Health / Disability/ or equivalent with minimum 12 months relevant experience is required for our more complex cases.
- Experience, knowledge and skills working with people experiencing mental illness within a residential setting is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and build relationships with Individuals, carers and families based on mutual respect and trust.
- Effective communication skills and interpersonal, combined with a proactive and hands on attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team and follow directions from the supervisor.
- A reliable, punctual and mature attitude with demonstrated ability to work with limited direct supervision.
- An understanding of the importance of personal and professional boundaries, privacy and confidentiality, ethical behaviour, policies and procedures.
Desirable
- Minimum of 12 months experience within the Industry
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in mental health (preferably in a residential setting), disability, drug and alcohol or youth work
- Understanding of and capacity to interpret and apply relevant standards and legislation (including National Standards for mental Health Services, recovery principles, psycho-social Recovery principles)
- Good understanding of and capacity of working with Physical and Intellectual disability
- Experience in working with highly challenging participants
- Knowledge of NDIS.
